Good morning Jan. For the hull planking, My “imagineering” would suggest leave it, just cut an adjusting plank and hopefully the rubbing plank/board will hide the adjustment when you install it?

I don’t know if you are watching the FIFA WC however the USA are on fire and the Netherlands dominated Sweden….Must make you smile :D . Cheers Grant

I've got the same error on both the Port and Starboard side. I stopped my planking progress on the Port side because I thought I had missed placing a plank. I guess I'm consistent because I have the same error on the Starboard side.

At first glance the planking looks just fine

But, there is a bit of a gap almost the width of the last plank I placed.

I don't know but the plank just below Pavels top whaler looks to be wider than yours which could make up the difference you are looking for??

Hi Paul,
I've got the same problem on both sides. I've watched the planking videos several times, compared them to my build and can't see where I went wrong. I've checked the kit box to see if there there are any planks that I haven't used. It's hard to make a mistake, all the planks on the flats are numbered and the plans show the sequence of placement.
I'm puzzled.

Yup, FIFA is interfering with my time in the shipyard. I'm becoming a couch Potatoe. I'm a big fan of Soccer/Fussball.

Hi Daniel,
I wondered about that also, to my eyes on the screen shot the first plank above the Wale looks about right, but the second and third ones seem a wee bit wider. The fourth plank in that area is the next Wale.

PLan A -- Tape the remaining planks together on my worktable, measure the overall width, then measure unplanked area from edge of the top rear deck down to Wale to see if there will be a gap.

Plan B is ????
 
Jan, I doubt whether you have made a mistake. I have seen too many inconsistencies - particularly pertaining to planking - on Pavel's kits, for me to think that you have made a mistake. I think your Plan A is a viable solution. If not, do you have any extra material that you can cut two planks from?

(As an aside, this is why I don't like pre-cut planks)

Hi Henrich,

The start for planking is the mid ship Wale. On the flat it's four pieces labeled 14R and 14L. The plans and videos show placing plank 14 first, then 13, then 12 and until reaching the keel with plank #1. (I had to diddle with that one to get a good fit). The next step is to plank up the hull starting with plank #15. Plank #16 is doubled up and becomes the second Wale. Then planks #17 - #19 are added and form the base to add the third Wale (doubled Plank #20.), I now have a gap between plank #20 and the top rail. (Blue Arrow). The gap is about the same on the Port and Starboard sides.

Hunting through the kit box there is another set planks in a darker wood that are the same number set as the Wales that I finished. So filling the gap won't be much of a problem. It's just estimating the width of the filler plank. (Plan B)
 
Jan, plank 20 LOOKS narrower than 17,18 and 19. I have no idea whether this is just an optical illusion or not. Are the darker planks with the same number wider by any chance than your current plank 20?

Hi Heinrich,

Yup, that plank #20 is narrower than the others.

I've not doubled up plank #20 in the photo so it will be easy to remove/replace if it comes to that.

I just checked that flat and the planks are the same width. I do have some planking left over from the WB build (about 6mm plus) .and will experiment with that. Plank #20 is 5.2mm and I need 6.5mm. That is a good possibility.
 
Use the 6mm planks from the WB and just sand the inner (protruding) plank to the same level as the 6mm exterior plank. No one will notice a 0.2mm difference.
 
After carefully considering plans A-D, I managed complete this section usingn plan E.

There are multiple planks in the kit for the various Wales, I found one with almost the shape and length needed to add as a spacer. (The darker colored plank).

Very nice-looking Jan. Great position for a contrasting plank color.
 
Glad you sorted that out, Jan. Now I have another challenge for you that will really set your Santa Maria apart.

This painting of the Santa Maria at Anchor is by Dutch artist Andries Eertvelt and clearly shows the bovennet or grating of the ship. How about incorporating this in your build?

Oh wow, that looks like a challenge. Is that the "anti boarding net" discussed in your thread of the The Swan??
