It may be that I've re-drilled the scupper holes in the wrong place as well!!! The little ones weren't noticeable if they were on the wrong level but they sure are now.

Olha was lucky enough to have access to ready made hinges for the sweep lids but I didn't so I made my own.


0.82 mm brass rod bent to shape around a drill bit. Hammered flat along the full length then cut to size.

Ends flattened with a punch to simulate the hinging part.


Blackened, then glued in place. My aversion to super glue despite full face protection makes it difficult for me to align objects so small but they are on and only a small amount of excess glue to remove. I may review these at a later date, if I decide I can do better.

, I took to the hull with the Makita again after pulling the scuppers from their incorrect position. I made patches for the holes (rather than dowels I used plank wood with grain and shaped it to match the grain of the hull planks).

Tapered and attached to sticks to aid fitting.






Scuppers re-located and hole above patched and painted.



I also made the mouldings to go between the gun ports. Using a scraper was easy and this was a quick job. They were 'painted' with linseed oil/turpentine 50/50 which is my go-to treatment for all the unpainted wood surfaces.

A little more 'iron work' today.

I formed a brass ring for the jib traveller and made the shackle and hook for the out haul and in haul.




Probably 5 hours (one failed plan) but I would rather spend a day on this than a minute on rigging.
