Black Swan - Black Swan custom VOC-pirate ship conversion / first wooden ship build

I Bended it!!! ... using lots of elastic benda and Wellington soaking in hotel water and restino all night , after 3-4 days of attempts.

But a small problem I hotel to fix with sone glue and a clip...

Another problem is I bent too much ... but may be I should adapt the reat deck or try to unbend part of the stern ?

I have a question , about the side galleries , are there any other sugestions on how to build them and make them stable and fitting to the boat or else? I wanted them to have also a side window and a door entrance as I saw on some ship models but I am not yet sure on how to build the underlying infrastructure to hold everything in place .

Today I glewed all together , I think I am final on structure of double deck and rear , either

I think next phase is lower side planking or start planking underdeck area , make walls cover , Doors, Windows etc .

Here is what I was thinking to do for the lower galleries part , not yet decided how to plank the rest, basically I am cutting several layers of tilia wood to give a shape and fit into the side shape , the idea is to later plank it better after sanding it to shape and plank around it ... not sure if its a good approach but it is what seemed to me The easiest way.

To shape I am using a rotating tool.

I have redone the stern shape , to make it more symetrical and a little bit more large to host better the side galleries .

Also closed the open area where the pole could be seen ... now its different rooms , the lower ones will just feature a gun probably.

Update on the stern, I worked with wood putty

20261003_015610.jpg20261003_015619.jpg20261003_015852.jpg

sanded , filled in holes with more materials and fitted more pieces to hive a more rounded and continuous shape. I am studying now the archways to build the galleries structure and the remake of the side panels for the ship .
Undecided if to cut the last support that i intrudes much of the cabin to replace with side supports may be.

Other test with suports to hold into posizione the side plank, I will have to carve holes in to expand on the stern .

Since I am a total noob at this hobby and its my first build , am I going toward a correct path or I am making errors?

Naima,
You’re doing great work and it’s a pretty ambitious project for a first build.

Since it’s a fictitious build, you are at least liberated from any constraints on historical accuracy. However, I would encourage you to use caution when working with AI. It will produce results that make no sense. We can overlook the fact that the construction in the AI image above does not in any way reflect the construction of any actual ship that was ever launched, but what catches my eye is the very high stern that doesn’t seem to serve any purpose, and it’s too massive to be supported by the relatively sparse framing below it. The esthetic of the tall stern is cool, so if you keep it, I would recommend building out that upper section as some sort of cabin on the weather deck. Just my $0.02…

Thanks , btw do you have any image reference of what could have looked like a interior cabin of the time? Still going fantasy but I couln't find any reference... as for the Stern I wanted to make it like si posted dome posts ago :) if I could.

I like your AI image interior, but most ships would not have been furnished like that. Due to the exigencies of accommodating the structure of the ship and to prevent things moving around in heavy seas, much of the furniture was built in. A large vessel with a very spacious great cabin might have some traditional furnishings, but I think those tended to be less common. Certainly no chests of gold sitting around.

I am testing an experiment here, to use those little joints to make openable Doors, not sure if is the correct way .
This door is lower than a normal man so someone would have to lower himself to enter it .

Don’t workable doors simply invite onlookers to try them out? Most modelers try to discourage people from touching their masterpieces
Oh I want to do because I also planned to add illumination , if I am able to and possibly make a magnetic open close system with the side galleries, still to test ROTF ... lol I am going a crazy route I know :) .

I’m adding illumination to my Fair American. I ran wire contacts into the keel where it sits in the brass pedestals. That way there are no visible wires to the hull.
