San Francisco II

Beautiful build! I'm working on the newest release of the SFII. Something that I wonder about is where is the helm? Shouldn't there be a ship's wheel somewhere?

Yes. But I think they are on another deck underneath and of the two ship of the lines I have built they never include the wheel. Not sure why.

Hi everybody. Just to answer the question regarding the wheel...
The ship's wheel was introduced in the XVIII century, to say, two hundred years after the building of the San Francisco that is from the XVI. In these ships, the rudder was maneouvred with a long tiller by the pilot who was under the deck and could see through a small cabin.
Besides in the ships of the XVVIII and later, the wheel was "safely hidden" under the quarterdeck, out of the reach of snippers and cannon balls.
Let me seek some pictures....
Greetings

Hello Mustafa. Thanks for the great build log. I have started a 1/96 CSS Alabama and you inspired me to start a log also. I have never seen the black “binder clips” that you are using to hold the planking in place while drying. This is the best tool I have seen for this part of the build. Are they purchased or did you make them yourself? Thanks again, DP
