USS Arizona Memorial model - Revell 1/426 USS Arizona, Shapeways Memorial - by SigEp Ziggy

I have been working on the destruction of the Arizona. I fractured the hull near the bow and placed a sheet of styrene under it to simulate the bow slightly higher, removed the portion that I had marked on the hull halves, cut the main deck, removed the #2 barbette from the secondary deck,Arizona mockup 004.jpg
and placed the turrets. Now to fine tune it all.

Boy when you put it all partially assembled..it really shows the extent of the damage done that day.......what an explosion, to do so much catastrophic damage.

Great job in handling this.

It was really an extreme explosion, which was documented at this time by several camera-men documenting the attack

Sorry for this hijacking of your log, but I think these information can be interesting for some of the members following your interesting project.

I ordered 1/400 scale people from an architectural model company, so I will have visitors on the Memorial.

I have worked on the Arizona wreck, I cut the sides of the hulls and added styrene for the new forward deck. I also started modifying the rear deck. More to follow.

WIP update. I have been working on the no2 turret, cut a new aft section of the forward deck, started some detail work.

A lot of the molded-on detail is not to scale. So, I removed them and am working on scratch building these details on the undamaged aft deck. The photo showed the parts I will try to mold and cast multiple copies. If someone could tell me what they are called, please do so. Also, I found this cheap necklace for $2.88 at Wallyworld for chain, that's 16 cents an inch!

Making some progress on the Arizona wreck, adding detail, scratch building, modifying parts and using some of parts as detail parts. For example, I cut up the fourth deck, I believe, to make the raised gun tubs on the aft deck and the conning tower hole. Made ventilation holes in the secondary deck using stencils I made from the photo copies I had made at the copy shop. I used the top/lid of the fighting top for the exposed ventilator on the rear deck. I also glued the hull halves together, started opening up the bores for the remaining guns. I will also add hatches and stairs with handrail to the aft deck.

Very interesting project Shane. I wrote a paper on the Pearl Harbor attack back in my high school days and have always been interested in the Arizona. I visited the Arizona memorial in 1990 or so. You seem to have done some excellent research. Good luck with this. I am on board with watching your progress.

Thanks, Guys. It means a lot to me. I hope I can measure up. We shall see.

Started with the Nina and that stalled for now, however, this Arizona build has bought joy to me. I have only been part of this community a short time and feel like a part of it. Thank you all!

Doc, I am working on adding my two builds to my profile, haven't figured it out yet.
