Copper was expensive, so they just coppered the hull just there where it was necessary - it was no question of beauty, just a technical need.
So only shortly over the waterline (fully loaded ship)

Another little update, and by the way, what's this part of the ship called?

Your weathered look is looking very good and realistic. Interesting the prepared area for the guns with the tracks of the gun-wheels.
Would be very good, if you could explain or show the working steps to get such a realistic surface....
