Getting started on my 2nd wood build, USS Rattlesnake, MS version. Since I consider myself a beginner, I am following another thread on this same build by TKAM. If you feel that your in the same "boat" I am, I recommend you follow TKAM and others for the best tips.

Getting back to it....rabbit is carved. Going slow so I don't have too many goofs.

Sanded and install of bulkheads. This was quite time consuming, and as careful as I was trying to be, I broke multiple pieces. But, mend them up and keep going.

All bulkhead in place, need to check for gaps and such, then I'll start on the bow fillers and transom block.

I'm following other build logs as I go, being this is my first build. Its awesome watching the techniques others use, and the variety of finish styles.

Long time since I last updated this log. I have the bow filler and stern counter blocks carved and in place. These carvings were not as difficult as I thought. However, minor adjusting will need to be done, I'm sure.

Getting some minor painting out of the way while glue dries. Behind the window frames i will have clear plastic for glass and crafting paper (supplied from my wife, a crafting connoisseur). Photo to follow.

Port side temporary batten being installed. Minor items to be worked with here, but the starboard side needs much more, which is why I have removed that batten.

Outline and carved the stern block, then shaped it.Hand carving wood is a new thing for me, but I think I'm getting the hang of it.

The transom, windows and decorative work. I used my mini files to take the rough edges off, the layered black, raw sienna and tabbed yellow to simulate a old gold overlay.
