Benjamin W. Latham (Model Shipway 1:48) by Fred P. [COMPLETED BUILD]

The shooner has one dory and one longboat. The dory is not provided in the kit but it is on the plan so I built it scratch.

For the longboat, the keel and the frames to form a mold are provided, but the mold obtained is not correct. I had to make a lot of modifications to get a longboat worthy of the name...

To be continued...

Best regards,

Thank you a bunch. I was having trouble with the plans, but your pictures added clarity to my project. Again, thanks, James

Hi James,
Below are some more construction photos of the longboat, if that helps...

I broke a small piece of the bow (green arrow) but I was able to glue it back together

To remove the temporary couples, there is no other way than to break them:

In the photo below, we see the pieces of the broken couples.
The two interior slats must be removed to be able to give the desired sheer to the boat:

Consolidation of the interior with wood filler:

Hi Fred. You have done a beautiful job with your build. I’m building the same ship (my first foray into model ship building). I was wondering if you could send pictures of the bowsprit and the deck of the boat now that you are completed with it? Your pictures have been of significant help along the way so far!

Thanks,

Dave Janisch

You are a model saver. I could not interpret the instruction properly, but you have made it fun again
