Black Pearl - Zhl 1:50 by Vfordyce [COMPLETED BUILD]

I would think a line would run from a ring in the corner of the sail to the piece that x6 is attached to. I would think a single block, and tied off on a belay pin or something like that.
Do you mean through an eyebolt to a belaying pin? The only belaying pins are near the mizzenmast. I suppose I could tie it up to the saddle looking cleat thing on the side, but those spots seem to be taken. The plans seem to leave the end of the sail dangling. I’ve looked at some lateen sails and how they operate. They seem to be attached aft-center. I would think you just untie when you move the yard to the lee side when you tack and don’t want the sail to rub against the mast.

I have all this info on the tip of my tongue and dont know how to relay it.... x6 is a block,, probably has 2 to 3 holes for rigging.. the line goes to a cleat....

Something like this, either a single or a pair of single blocks. Block tied to corner sail with ring or hook down. Line seized to upper single block down through lower single block siezed to S-hook or hoop attached to an eyebolt. Line back up through the upper single, back down and tied off somewhere that makes sense.

you got the right idea,,, double block tied to a cleat... read more books.. they;re all in there..reseatrch...

Masts are all up! One has to be careful with the placement of the crows nest. I thought I had measured them right, but they were too far forward. I should have measured them with the upper masts in place. I had to do a lot of trimming to fit everything in place. Measuring the width of the masts on the plans and comparing them to the dowels didn’t work either. I had to use dowels at least one mm smaller so they could fit into the appropriate places.6EB96651-125E-43D7-8387-1A35A9F4A03D.jpegimage.jpg

Great progress Vic. It's looking real good. You're headed towards the homestretch. Time to sit back and admire the fruits of your labor.

Have you ever notices most all ratlines are done wrong historicly!

We mostly just use same old clove hitch for all knots on rat lines.

But I learned from new rigging book that the horizontal lines had seized loops in end that were then secured with secured to outermost shroud line!

No I for one unless I get a large scale 1:12 or bigger, will not be making tiny seized loops in ends of every ratline on the ship.

I will stick with the way most builders have done for years.

I just discovered one of my clove hitches came loose on the mizzenmast. Gotta go back and snip and redo. Kurt, I’ve seen that we probably also make the rat lines too thick, based upon the pictures I’ve seen.
