I agree on the research being part of the fun of a real ship, but with a mythical ship your fun is that you have free rein over how you modify it to suit your imagination.
Thank you for the offer of drawings I may take you up on it in the future. I enjoy researching anything when I can learn more. I grew up around boats and ships for the first half of my life. And only now am I realizing that my knowledge of them is very limited. I am going to have fun building and studying a new subject this year.If you are not sure, I can post some drawings from James Lees' Masting and Rigging English Ships for you as well. Give a shout if you do need them.

For some of us independent research to confirm or correct things can be half the fun. If your next model is a real ship often there are contemporary plans, contracts, and scantlings readily available on line, many for free, some others in books. All you need do is ask.

Yes, research is great fun for me. I will finish the buccaneer mostly as I had already planned. This forum has helped me to see the great value and fun of building wooden ships. I can see that it is time to do some research on the Santisima Trinidad since I am planning on doing the cross-section next.I agree on the research being part of the fun of a real ship, but with a mythical ship your fun is that you have free rein over how you modify it to suit your imagination.
Thanks for the wonderful comment!Rebus, your attention to details is very well done, it shows your skill!
Thank you for the kind words and advice. I appreciate it.Rebus, I too think you've done a fine job so far. I do agree that the high gloss is not usually presented in our ships, especially on raw wood. Maybe with paint. Rigging gets pretty interesting some times. Trying to find enough places to belay the lines is challenging on some ships. Sometimes, you just have to make stuff up. Keep up the good work!
Very neat and tidy job. Looking very good. Well done on your progress. This is my first time to build a wooden ship. I have wanted to since a young age. Did not find this forum until after I started. I am starting a build log part of the way through.
Would like to have comments on what I have done so I can improve on the next build.
SOS has been a great help to me and a wonderful source of information to help improve and learn the skills I need. Thanks to the community for having a place to dialog and learn this craft.

Thanks for the kind word. I used the OcCre sapelli stain for the masts.Very nice build Rebus, and thanks for sharing your enthusiasm! I am curious, what did you use to stain the masts?
Thank you for your incredibly kind words. I have found just take my time and sometimes do nothing but ponder how it goes together. It has become a very meditative process.Beautiful ship. The only major problem I see, is that you didn't start modeling wooden ships earlier. I hope when I start on my first ship, all I've done so far are small boats, that it looks half as good as yours. Again, this looks absolutely beautiful.
I can't wait to see the finished product either. Been studying the diagrams for the rigging and think I've got it. So shortly I will find outThe sail is ready to be rolled. I can't wait to see it finished.
