Cafmodels 1/48th scale HMS Bellona

Small update: I started assembling the frame pieces:



The starboard and port frames are paired and not identical. Thus care was taken not to accidentally build two identical frames:



This marking here shows where the frame's bottom edge is to line up to make sure they are attached at the correct height:



All bulkheads should have this marking, however, it was on only one. I made a template from thick sheet styrene to transfer it to all other bulkheads:



You can see here on Cafmodels assembled master-model that the top and bottom gunport sills are parallel to the waterline:



And thus the slots to take these sills are stepped:



However, this is incorrect. The sills should follow the deck-sheer. I'm going to correct this on my model, I'll show you how when I'm at it.

Hallo Peter, many thanks for showing us these details....it is the way to learn.
and we once more realize, that we have all never stop thinking about the correctness and to be aware that nothing is perfect.
We should all try to make our models better ..... a little bit every day
 
Do not mix the frame elements when you start fixing them to the bulkheads.......she is getting a big model.
Sorry to ask, what are the appr. dimensions of the model?
 
Thanks for your Kind comments guys - much appreciated! :) Now that all the frames are done, the slots for the gunport sills have been filled with cherry-strips 3/3mm.

For me, I am still not understand what for these 3*3mm strips pieces are? But it is looking interesting - I guess I will understand it following your building log Coffee

@Uwek I hope I can get it across! :) Like I said previously the gunport sills are parallel to the waterline which is incorrect they should follow the deck-sheer. Thus the slots in the frames to take these sills are stepped. To take one slightly curved single strip of sills the Frames would need one slot only. The question: where to place it? I closed all slots with 3/3mm pieces of cherry. The new slot was then sawn out halfway between the closed slots:





In this next picture you can see the remains of the cherry pieces. This is what I wanted to achieve: A single relocated Slot to take one single strip of sill.



The next picture is an extract from the plan. You can see the sills are stepped. The yellow line indicates how they should be: all in one slightly curved line.



According to the kit and its instructions individual upper and bottom sills are to be inserted between the frames as seen in the plan above. Instead I chose to join up all sill pieces into strips. The first step was to shave off wood at the Ends of each sill. With the small snippet of ply the pieces were joined to each other.






Halfway there:



All pieces of the bottom port bottom sill have been joined together and are test fitted into the hull:

Looks good! Just what I wanted:



Model builders who purchase and build this kit should note: on sheet 15 pieces 11-12-e and 11-12-d were swapped! Piece 11-12-e is actually d and 11-12-d is actually e.

Many thanks for the explanation - I got it
I was thinking, that these are originally from the kit, now I understand, that the small parts are glued by yourself in order to repair the mistake. Good solution.
