Chaperon 1884 Stern Wheeler

That railing system sure adds character to her lines. She's beautiful!
Yup, I think it came out well.
I know how that feels, Jan. But you did a very fine job with the finish of this ‘chap(t)er-on’ both sides.

Thank you for the great comment.

That looks very impressive Jan. It is amazing to the see how much more streamlined and integrated the whole ship looks with those railings in place. Thumbsup
Thank you Heinrich, your comments are greatly appreciated.

Me versus the plan.

Well it seemed simple enough. Look at the plan and decide what to tackle next. Ah, gonna need six smoke stacks manufactured from various dowel sizes.

That looked simple enough. Cut the dowels to size and noticed that four of the smoke stacks needed "caps". Back to the plan

Neat there is pattern for the "caps". I made several copies, cut, snipped, bend and the first version didn't come out very well. Try number two, three and four all had the same result. ( I don't remember passing scissor cutting in Pre-K)

It was time for Al-Fi.

Step one, glue a piece of scrap on the end of the dowel.

Then sand it to "cap" shape.

The smoke stacks dry fitted before painting.

Yup, I like it.

It's the little things that take time:

The kit Pilot house whistle casting didn't float my "boat".

IMG_4678.jpeg

The casting was flat to oval and not very impressive, so...

IMG_4679.jpeg

I dug through my "I'm going to need this sometime box" and found enough bits of tubing to solder together a Jan version whistle.

I think this looks "OK"

From here I can hear that ‘dual-tone’ whistle, Jan. A very nice outcome.
