Corsair H.M.S. Enterprize Build Log

Still working on the inner hull planking as well as looking at the additional transom pieces.
I am pretty sure that I have figured out a way to install the additional pieces, but they will have to wait a little bit to get install because I can't get to it while the ship is in the construction jig. I am cutting them in half (already done) and will be able to insert them from the side. :)
Work continues, although not very fast. But, faster than it was in the past few months. :)

Great progress! Yeah, that's a common problem... 24 hours a day is just a travesty. At least 100 would be nice.

First, I want to thank all of you for continuing to follow my build even though it is going slow. I really appreciate you all being here and providing support and suggestions when needed !
I've gone as far as I can with the ceiling and thick stuff on the starboard side of the hull. I've done the lower ones on the port side as I was doing the starboard, but now I will turn the ship around so I can mirror what I have done onto the upper port side. I'm also not able to do the very stern pieces of these until I install the counter timbers which I have started taking a serious look at along with preparing some of the pieces for it. :)

Bi more further information on my struggles building the kit
As you know Gun Ports are part of the frame with top and bottom sills
The Planking needs to be cut about a mm short of the port all round so the Lids can fit in to form a seal as per real ship
This is impossible if you fit the planking and then cut the ports
There are no Lids provided
Step 118 does "Show" this
I must admit i am struggling

Very sorry to hear you're having problems.. Maybe you can make them up from strips of planking material.

no problem with port hole lids but just saying it outer planking should finish a mm or so short of the port hole inner lining so he port lid would fit into the "Hole"

Still making slow gains on the counter timbers and other stern work. Just for @dockattner , here is a picture to show that it is really happening. ROTF

make sure all the frames are lined up i had a problem with that towards the stern that is sticking out like yours
also that the thick stuff is exactly right as it supports the deck frame and might not allow tthe gun to be correct on the deck

i also found that the hanging and all knees need more of a cut out around the thick stuff check that with one of the lower deck knees ypu migh see what i mean

Thanks for the heads up Richard. :)

So, I'm almost done with the "inner planks" in step 42 on the starboard side. I wanted to work on something a little different. So I started looking at step 43 which is also referred to as "inner planks" but it is the mast steps and a couple of crutches and the breasthook. The instructions list each of these parts with only one number. The step for the foremast is listed as E6-a. The step for the main is listed as E3-a, and the mizzen is listed as F2-25. Each of these is actually 3 parts. The main step is 3 parts in the E3 sheet labeled "a". The foremast step is on sheet E6 and is also 3 parts all listed as "a". And as you would expect, the mizzen step is on sheet F2 and is 3 parts all identified as "25". However, they are not all the same. The center piece on all 3 steps has a square cut out on the top for the mast to fit in. The rear piece for the mizzen and the forward piece for the foremast have bevel lines on them and these need to go to the outside. All this makes pretty good sense once you look at them and think about it.

Now, for the two crutches and the breasthook. The after crutch is listed as C-1. The crutch at the bow is listed as C-2 and the breasthook is listed as C-3. Each of these appear as a single piece, but again each one is comprised of 3 pieces. The stern crutch is on sheet C1 and is 3 parts identified as "1". The forward crutch is also on sheet C1 and the 3 parts are identified as "2". The breasthook is 3 parts as well, however, 2 of the pieces are found on sheet C1 and identified as "3" and the center piece is found on sheet B11 and identified "3".

I know that most of the guys in the group build are ahead of where I'm at and this doesn't help them, however I hope this will help others with their builds and also Modelship Dockyard can use this (and other notes I've made about part numbers) to update their instructions.

Happy building !

Sounds like you have a good handle on all the sub steps included in step 43. I can picture multiple plan pages open and an instruction book as well, sifting back and forth putting this challenge in its proper order.

@Daniel20 The actual "picture" is not that complex. :) Since there have been links posted to the instructions both on these forums as well as on a web site, I'm pretty comfortable showing part of it. Where as the plans don't really show these pieces well (unless I'm missing one or more sheets which i don't believe I am ). The instructions show what appear to be single pieces. Judge for yourself.
