Building OCCRE’s Endurance and need to tie off the ropes from the pulleys of the life boats. Directions seem to show they are tied off at the base of the davits. Is this the correct way or should they be tied off at the rail?

I assume that these are the typical curved arm davits. Photos and drawings of these often show cleats on the davit’s vertical shank.

The best three photos I could find are below and not very conclusive although the last one of Sir Ernest Shackleton waving from aboard the Endurance at Millwall Docks seems to have the rope belayed on other than the davit itself.

I think deadeye will be connected to the crane first and then after connecting it to the deadeye, it will be passed through the deadeye eyes.

We men say heroes like Shackleton were brave but women just raise an eyebrow and see it as men being boys and never completely growing up. My admiral says we "men" stop maturing at 18 and what's worse is we are proud of it. Our toys and adventures just get bigger and more expensive.

I say THANK GOODNESS for us "boys" or we would still be living in caves.
