'Emma' - A Diorama making use of the sloop-rigged smack kit, Emma C Berry (1866), from Model Shipways, 1/32 Scale.

I don’t know why but I missed all of that discussion on glues. Sorry all.

I’m pinning my hopes on Loctite 403 which is a special CA for use where ventilation is impractical. It hardly fumes at all and @dockattner , who also is sensitive to ordinary CA says it’s the bizz.

I will of course, ventilate like Katrina and expose the minimum amount - which for setting rig knots will be miniMAL. (Mal being French for sickness, d’ye see? Oh, ha, ha, ha!)

Now, back to Emma related matters. There’s no sign of the crew yet but the Captain has made an appearance.

I think that’s a fair old casting. There is a hand and its walking stick to go with these pieces but I’m inclined to provide the salty old sea dog with a hook?. The detached head gives me scope for some contraposto which always brings a scene alive.

I reckon the hat will be suitable with a new peak at a flatter angle and the clog and gaiter footwear can easily become seaboots.

I’m keen to paint him right away so that he can supervise the building/destruction of Emma, the boat he named for his own true love.

Good to know about the Loctite 403!

As is, he looks like he's ready to pilot a ghost ship.ROTF

My $0.02, but I think a hook would come across as too pirate-y. Rather, perhaps a pegleg since the leg-wrappings will have to be re-done into trousers anyway.

I’m not very well practiced with figures.

A hook is easier to paint than a hand.

Two wellington boots are easier to make than one boot and one peg leg + one crutch.

I find those three things add up to an offer I can’t refuse. ROTF ROTF

I’m quite keen on this build. It’s going to be megafun with lots of opportunities for experiments and no penalties when things go wrong: it only cost £80, price of a decent meal for two; and I can claim that all my disasters were always a part of the entropy plan!

Keeping Emma fun makes her the side order of chips (French fries) sitting next to my platter of steak and lobster which is Alert and whichever ship I build next with serious intentions (there are several possibilities).

I’ll have a fist full of chips whenever I feel like a break from the surf and turf protein overdose. :p ‘HMS Rib-eye’ and ‘HMS Lobster’ will keep me awake at nights but Emma is the greasy old handful that will always help me sleep. ROTF

I ordered my crew of lads from Spain, a marvellous country which I love. I'll never visit it again because I'm getting to old for tourism. It's the Neverland.

So these little chaps must be the Lost Boys.

The one in front looks very like my youngest did at that age, even to the hairstyle.

They are not bad at all for injection moulded figures and should be easy-ish to paint. The separate arms and legs will allow for some adjustments to their poses to fit the diorama which is much better than the stiff old Cap'n who only has an adjustable head.

I have something to slow the build down even from its present glacial pace. :)

That’s the first book I’ve bought in 42 days, which for me is something of an achievement. I seem to have cured my bibliomania. Today I found a book on Trafalgar in my local bookshop which was rather yellowed old stock. I was offered the book gratis but even at that price, I did not want it. Most unusual. Now I’m going to read Emma’s biography instead of putting it on a shelf and forgetting it for years. :D
