this is my first attempt at a build log , i have made several ships in the past but never had anyone look at them in any detail so i don't know how good or bad they are , anyway , i was encouraged by the forums admins to start one so here goes. i have already finished the second planking on the hull and i have started the detailing , i have a few pictures up till now which i will repost plus a few extra , there seems to be several different versions of the actual Endeavour but i am going to follow the corel plans and make a stand way off scale version of the ship

i have made a little progress and then i went backwards a little, there is a plan for the rudder , so i built it per the plan , when i came to fit it , it was about 1.5 times too big , luckily i had some scrap wood from a previous kit and built another to the correct size , when i came to install it , however , the pre drilled hole in the deck wasn't in the right place , it was only about 1.5 mm too far back but that would have meant a big hole in the deck , so i pulled up some of the decking and filled the jole a little and re drilled it into the correct location, the rudder is now installed and i am going to fix the deck soon, i also finished the gun port lids (not photographed) and lined the cannon port holes , 20200401_123544.jpg20200401_123544.jpg20200330_194322.jpg20200330_194341.jpg20200330_194409.jpg20200401_123544.jpg20200330_194322.jpg20200330_194341.jpg20200330_194409.jpg20200330_194409.jpg

I’ve been trying to decide how to do the anchors, i think I’ll do them like yours, good pics.
my kit shows Black rope,

if i'm not mistaken the black rope is for standing rigging and was some kind of tar coating to help preserve it , not sure if it was also used for the anchors , i'm sure someone with better knowledge can let us know what is correct

To blacken brass and other metals there are several brands of treatment available.

Google Brass Black, or Metal Blackening and you should get some input.

I think one brand I have seen listed is Jax Black, I am not sure if that is for just brass and copper or works on other metals as well.

You might just type "Blacken" in SoS search and see what all comes up.

i have all my brass pieces and i have tried 2 different chemicals to blacken them , they both look really black until i rinse them in water and then most f the black comes off and they just look dull, am i better of painting them? OR SHOULD JUST LEAVE THEM DULL

Before burnishing them you polish the metal with some steel wool, then degrease with acetone or similar degreaser and burnish them again. This will help to get a nice black metal surface.
