Endurance - Occre By Paul Marotta Build Log -- Trials and Tribulations of my First Build

Phew...more progress today. I replaced the stamped metal stanchions and rope railings with really nice turned brass pieces I found online at Drydock if I remember correctly, plus I used wire from Tichy Train Group for the railings...that was a bit more of a challenge than I expected but I like it better in the end. I also replaced the wood dowel exhaust stack with nicer looking Evergreen Styrene tubing and that too looks better in the end but took significant "re-engineering" to fit!. Obviously all will be painted later. Cleats are in, belays are in, companionway is made but FPO at this point. My question is if I glue it in now will I have trouble with mast and rigging later? Anyone here been through this before? I did add some of the blocks as well but not the deadeyes as I have nicer ones coming soon, later this week I think. The blocks are replacement "Beautiful Blocks" from Expo and they are indeed much nicer.

OK...135+ hours in and here are a few updates.

.Small boats are done and that was HARD!
.Most of the deck pieces are done and in place, waiting on replacement stairs/steps/ladders from Ages of Sail that seem to have been lost in the mail
.Will finish handrails after I get steps?
.Will not hang small boats until after rigging as I suspect they might be in my way?
.Bowsprit is done and in place, wanted to get ahead on that
.Wow Occre chain is a mess, links kept separating as I was installing!!!!!
.Will not glue dog quarters in place until I know that it won't interfere with rigging
.Anchors are in, that was a cute little challenge since directions showed 3-4 different things wrong with routing the rigging
.I started experimenting with coiling some rope, wasn't hard, will also do some to drape over belays later
.I rebuilt exhaust funnel with Evergreen Styrene tube, looks better, will paint later, not glued in yet.
.Started adding rope grabs to life boats, will finish that up later as well, They show up in Hurley's pics.
.Hurley's pics show coverings on life boats so I think we (my wife and I since she is really good w sewing machine!) will fabricate those.
.I'm also thinking we will scratch fabricate better looking/stitched sails as well
