Endurance - Occre First Build

After some hours of sanding, the model is finally beginning to take shape.

This hobby has been tons of fun so far, but it has not felt this rewarding until I got into sanding the hull. It's turning out really beautiful in person. I did some detail work on a bench outside when the weather was nice today, and I got numerous compliments on how beautiful it looked. My phone and dorm room lighting do not do it justice. It's extremely smooth, and I am really happy with how it's all turning out.

I just need to make some small adjustments, clean up a couple edges, and take down a couple final planks on both sides that just need to be taken down very slightly to make everything perfectly flush.

Looking forward to what the ship will look like once second planking is done and paint is applied.

Congratulations on your first planking! I have just found this build log and will follow along. A good shaping of the hull will make for a better second planking. In the future you should consider using modified binder clamps as opposed to nails to help with the planks.

I think it will make you build easier. There are many build guides here of similar ships to help you along as well as you tube videos covering almost every (if not every) aspect of this great hobby. I found that a small plane is great to help shape the hull before sanding and using wood filler.

With your work at school, don't go crazy trying to finish this ship. No matter when it is done I know your Dad will appreciate it!

These are awesome tips. I will definitely try these on the next build.

In the meantime, YouTube resources seem quite good for planking information so far.

On the nails splitting the bulkhead. Pre drill.the hole.with a slightly smaller drill bit
This would've been a good idea, and I'll likely try this if my next kit is from Occre (or uses these brass pins). I saw the other day that pre-drilling holes is exactly what Occre recommends you do in the instructions for its higher end kits (like the Limited Editions and the Agora kits).

I'm guessing they want to make the instructions more simple for beginners for their kits that don't cost an arm and a leg, but it would've been nice if they included pre-drilling in their instructions for all their kits.

Sage advise from Ron. It always takes l I anger than we anticipate.
It is seeming like this might be the case. I have set many internal timelines for myself that I have failed to meet with this project, but I am having fun and it's coming along nicely regardless.

No matter what, I can always push this back if I can't get far enough along by December.
