Got some bench time today and was able to finish up the ship’s wheel from the Syren mini-kit.
It’s a little bigger than the cast metal wheel in the kit. It’s an improvement over the current kit’s wheel (on the left), but I’m not sure mine came out any better-looking than the wheel from the 1990s’ version of the kit (middle).
Happy New Year, everyone!
Those wheels are way, way cooler than the kit's cast wheels!!
Happy New Year.
:D

Hey Namabiiru,

Your steering wheel looks great. Beautifully painted! :DThumbsupCould you do me a favour? Could you take a close-up photo of the steering wheel while standing? I'm also looking for a suitable steering wheel for the Athena...

Many thanks for your help.

Thank you, Günther!

Do you want me standing when I take the picture, Or the wheel? ROTF

Here is Mr Basswood inspecting the wheel

He’s contemplating the addition of some brass nails, but I’ve tried to convince him they’d be too small to be noticed.

Hey Namabiiru,

Yes, exactly. You've done a wonderful job. Feel free to post a still image of yourself with the steering wheel here... Really beautiful!! :D Thumbsup

Not showing off ROTF. You were wondering if nails would look out of scale. Now you can judge visually for yourself. If you like the look its easy: drill a hole, stick in thin brass wire, sand it smooth. But no one has ever said to me: oh, you put nails in the ship's wheel...now I like it...
Maybe they didn't say it, Paul, but they all thought it

Blessings.
Chuck

Hi, everyone! Can’t believe it's been so long since my last update, and even that was pretty weak-sauce. We just finished up a major exercise, but the pace of everyday work continues to expand. In the off hours, we’re trying to finalize the house build so we can start moving in next month. All that to say it’s going to be a bit before I manage much more time at the bench. I appreciate all of your for your patience and continued support of my modest blog.

Relocation of the shipyard officially started yesterday. The driveway was just being completed when we arrived to sign the paperwork so it will be a week before we can drive on it. That will be a lot of trips on foot from the street to the house to get everything moved.

Ha! Indeed, first things first, so when will you be moving the rest of your home? ROTF
In actual fact, the shipyard itself will probably be among the last of the rooms to actually get moved since the hobby room is the one most easily accessible from the driveway. Don’t want to fill it up when there’s still a bunch of stuff to pass through.

Namabiiru! Checking in. I hope the move has gone well. Particularly concerned about the relocation of your shipyard. Looking forward to watching you make more magic.

Blessings. Peace. Gratitude.

So kind of you to check in and inquire, Chuck! The move progresses, but slowly. We gave ourselves a month to accomplish it, and we seem to be doing an adequate job of utilizing the allotted time in its entirety. Unfortunately, it’s a particularly busy time at work so not so easy to simply take some off to get things done. But we’ll get there, and then we’ll see how quickly I can fill the new house with sawdust!
