After about a month I'm well into this model. I want this to be a relaxing build and so I'm just following the directions and not modifying anything. I'm sure you, my fellow tars, may want to just put your feet up, cross your arms and tsk tsk this build. Don't blame you.

It looks like satisfying work so far! The perks of using wood I think. My cardboard is flopped all over Haha. Looking forward to seeing more :3

Well Mr. Dragon, the cardboard may be flopped over but your drawings are very good. Thanks for the comment.

Good looking start on the kit.

Keep on posting and showing where your at.

Have you checked other build logs to see what possible issues others may have had and how they got things done.

Thanks for looking after me. I do make progress but you know, there's breakfast and a nap then lunch and I have to meet the guys and play pool 5 days a week then I'm unwillingly dragged off to the grocery store and then...in between...I peek around the corner at the Fair American. So, progress is made, slowly. But what's the rush, I say? I also look at other's build logs which is why I was prepared to set up the table was to cut a new keel. As I said initially, I'm going after this by the book. Following the instructions. To heck with what someone else has said and...Damn the Torpedos!IMG_1479.JPGIMG_1480.JPGIMG_1484.JPGIMG_1485.JPG

Seems the instructions like for me to attach the railing before the ceiling or planking. I think I should have waited.

Great start, Truc.
I just pulled out my partially built Fair American to take a stab at continuing the work.
I look forward to watching your build.

Plugging along. I inserted the mast dowels for fun. You may notice, if you look very carefully, the hatch covers are of two varieties. I think I didn't get enough pieces to complete both. As a matter of fact, I know I didn't. I scrounged about in my parts pile but didn't have many of this size. So I improvised.

I should have done that and probably will order a few things from Syren. The cast pumps in this kit are questionable for instance. I can still pop out the two hatch covers if they bother me. I just wonder how much I want to invest in this kit.

I scratch-built the capstan and some of the other deck pieces. I too did not care for the castings.
I keep getting more things for mine, so I am not the proper authority on going over budget.
Shhhh, don't tell the Admiral.

Hello again. It's kind of fun making this log of my build. I just added four more pictures after having constructed the Quarter Deck beams the cabin framing and the start of the cannon ports. I tried to assemble a cannon for fitting of the ports but the cheap wood used in the laser cut gun carriage falls apart at the slightest breeze. I'm not expecting this ship to win any awards but the cannons are just about the best part. I may have to put in an order at one of the supply companies. AKA Chuck. I measured the size of the door frames, naturally, but in the photo the right one looks narrower. Probably a lens aberration. Don't you think?IMG_2238.JPGIMG_2241.JPGIMG_2243.JPGIMG_2246.JPG

Hi J, Thanks for your look, but it's not a double, just looks like it. I had to run the wood across the width of the frame to reinforce it. After sanding, the top of the frame had crumbled away. If you can see, I marked the correct opening with pencil so I wouldn't forget! As I am wont to do.

Ok, sorry about the mistake.
I think I laid some decking and then used one of the cannon carriages to try and get the height and location as close as correct as possible.

There are additional sources if you are OK with 3D resin printed cannons like those from Chuck with many more choices of scale, caliber, etc. PM me if interested and I can hook you up with drawings and a top cannon maker whose pricing has been much better in the past based on my experience. Hopefully that is still the case.
Allan

Thanks Allan, After writing that I did snoop around and find at least one member of the forum who manufactures cannon and fittings. I'll take another look.
