That is great information, now I can replace Le Renommee's figurehead with the proper one. Timing is everything, wish I had this information a couple of months ago, but better late than never. I had been wondering about the figurehead, but I didn't think the French would just use a beaver by itself, holding a shield with the fleur de lye's makes perfect sense. Thanks for the information, it is very much appreciated.FYI, I happened to come across this reference to La Castor in the document, French Naval Sculpture under the Ancien Régime (1650-1789), by Ronald Portanier that I downloaded as a PDF. In it, they mentioned the figurehead of La Castor as a sculpture of a beaver holding a shield that had three fleur-des-lys on it. Here's the sections that contained the reference to Canadian-built ships.

There are so few references to this ship, I thought you'd be interested.

We never know when we may find a diamond amongst the dross as we troll through the internet looking for one thing and finding another. Great find. Rich (PT-2)So sorry I didn't run across this snippet earlier for you. I hope it goes easily in replacing the figurehead. If I ever come across any other info on La Castor, I'll be sure to pass it along to you. Happy building!!

looks beautifulI continue work on the ships quarter galleries, the port side one is almost complete. The scroll work is difficult, holding on the the small parts while you carve them is the hardest part, the Pear wood carves beautifully and holds detail so well, it is a pleasure to carve.

Hallo my friend @SquarebriggsBegan to build a model of the French 8 pounder frigate La castor, built in Quebec City at the Royal Dockyard, by R.N. Lavasseur, master shipwright. I am basing it on the plan for Le Renommee, of 1744, of the same class. I am building her in the combination method, lower hull bread and butter, upper hull plank on rib. It is a method that I enjoy working in as I do not show the lower hull construction.
Thank you Jim. This past few months have been difficult my wife has been sick, fell and broke a vertebra in her back a while ago so everything falls to me, coupled with a lack of or no inspiration or motivation, so haven't posted for some time, though I check in and observe regularly.Wow! Great job, Bob! Long time, no see.
