French war-ship Saint-Philippe 1693 - scale 1/72 - from Lemineur monograph [COMPLETED BUILD]

Christian, great Job you did! I do think the Problems that are within the reconstruction we're heavyly solved by your creativity and knowledge of before built projects.
The S.P. does look very fine and the contrast between the dark and bright wood does give a beautyfull Idea of the hull's complex shape! I am fascinated by the Resultat and your model is even smaller (your 1/72 to my 1/64) than my will be.
I am very very affraid about the progress on the halerys due to the fact the inner parts aren't already done...
My humble suggestion would be to install the deck's iteriour imitation and gun carriages inside and place at the very end the gun barrels through the openings into the carriages before adding the gunport lids. So the real danger of brutally damaging something outside while working inside being stooped over the model isn't there anymore.
Hopefully this does help to avoid damage to your beautiful work.

By the way the original decoration plan does only show one 36pounder per ship's side under the transom and by this I think your reconstruction only to add two guns afterwards is very right. (In my personal oppinion Mr.Lamineur was too much focussed in the Goal to press in an 87th, 88th, 89th and his final 90th gun into the reconstructed hull that he completly ignored the possibility of firing through the toilet's door {after the officer left the room certainly ;-) } and invented these questionable gunports integrated lust-fully into the transoms decor. Forgetting the immense force of a recoiling 24gun against the beautiful fine but quite weak structure of the transom's timbers. I am highly interested If you will show these four viewable grooves to these two gunport lids in your transom at all).

Thanks for your great work, siencistic results and inspirations (I so deal with my exerciseing ships to come closer to my 1/64 rolled copies in some years). Great to know there are other Guys arround having open eyes on these Plans:

I've built the rear stern with only two guns all like your illustration of time, because I verified that the four guns were impossible, there was no place for such a disposition, it seems to me that it was an unappropriated direct copy of the Soleil Royal back stern...

Generally, these hunting gun-ports were most often used to load the long spars needed on a warship under enemy fire

I noticed also that the down part of back-stern sides sunk under flotation line, and that its design was too complicated at my taste

Thanks for your detailed advice !

Regards,

Christian
