Like every thing, your ability to show us what to do, is again showing through on the case! Thank you mate.
Looking at your workshop, I've noticed that you have a lot of nice machinery and the ultimate piece that is most important to any modeller, is the comfortable stool you have there. I can see it has a 'Bernadette' touch in the form of the cushion. You're a lucky man mate, to have her!

I thank you very much for your visit to my build log. Also for your very kind words and overly nice comments. Yes, Bernadette has brought me a lot of nice tools over the year. 10" table saw, 4" Byrnes table saw, 10" planer, 16" scroll variable speed saw, 4" belt and disk sander, router and table and dozens of small hand tools that I do use quite a bit in by model ship building. The only drawback is that I keep them in our basement workshop and this means a lot of stairs climbing, my legs do protest after a few trips. Yes, that cushioned chair is quite comfy and very handy for working at my scroll saw. I do plan to give it a good work out next month when I do start my scratch Oliver Cromwell POF build and start cutting planks and the many frames for her hull. ENJOY.

PS -- would love to have a metal lathe and mill but at my age this expense I cannot justify and rely on the Model Dockyard in Cornwall, England a fair bit.

What is the use of money especially at an older age. Spend your hard earned money on yourself and Bernadette, while you can.
Don't leave it for your children, I'm sure they would rather you have the enjoyment now, rather them having it latter. I'm talking by experience mate. I wish my parents had spent their money on themselves and enjoy it, while they were around. I would give anything for that!
So get what you want now, and let your children know that you are happy.

I thank you very much for your reply. Golly but you do sound like Bernadette, this is what she has been telling me for years now. I do spend a fair bit on my on my ship building hobby and do not want to appear too greedy. Maby I will put in a request for Christmas, ENJOY.

Once again, I do thank you all very much for all of your visits over the last year to my build log on the little ship the Golden Hind. Also, for your many very kind words and also for your overly nice comments. I am very grateful for all of your support over the last year that has added so very much to the joys of building this little ship.



Back in the Old Ship Yard the little fellows and I have turned our attention from the little shipbuilding tools to the full-size tools in our basement workshop. We have constructed and built a new home for our Golden Hind to live in [ Display Case]. That is 26” long x 11” wide x 20” high, or 66 x 28 x 51 CM. Our display case came in rather on the cheap side at a cost of under $10.00 as the glass came from an aluminum storm window that we had replaced a year ago, the cherry wood came from my garage that was given to by a friend over 20 years ago and the stain and varnish were leftovers from some of my previous household chores. But I did have to buy a set of tiny hinges and silicone to secure the glass to the wooden frames. All and all this will give our Golden Hind a snug harbor that she can live in dust free.



I find it always a bit sad to end a build log and the Golden Hind has been no exception. She has been a joy to build and also very challenging at the same time due to her small size, THANKIMG_5014.JPGIMG_5015.JPGIMG_5016.JPGIMG_5017.JPGIMG_5018.JPGIMG_5019.JPG YOU ALL. ENJOY.

For my next build, I have ordered a set of plans from Harold M. Hahn son Chriss and also a building jig from the Lumberyard. This will be a POF build and I do want to saw or mill all of my own lumber for the frames and planking. I am thinking of walnut for her keel and cherry for all of her frames. The planking is still up in the air as yet but that will be around a year from now.

I have also been considering building the Blandford cross section just for the practice. But I do have to catch up on my household chores that have piled up on me since Christmas, ENJOY.

I am in a bit of a building limbo these days as I am still awaiting my building board from the Lumberyard for my next build the POF, Oliver Cromwell that I hope that I have enough skills to build one of these ships that has intrigued me for many years now. However, I am in the midst of painting my Admiral kitchen Oak cabinets that requires 3 coats and 14 hours of drying time between. So it looks like I will be very tied up for another couple of weeks. I have however built the binnacle and added an Led Light to give it a bit of a glow at night, may try and do a bit of the stern decorations between kitchen cabinets paint drying time, ENJOY.

Well, the last month sure has not left very much time at all for work in the Old Ship Yard. I am still in the midst of painting our Kitchen dark Oak Cabinets that has turned into a monster of a job. There are 34 separate units of doors and drawers, that require 3 coats of paint on each side along with 24 hours of drying time between coats. But Alas the end is in sight as I will complete the painting tomorrow and reinstall the last batch this coming Monday. This little job has turned into a monster as I am on my 3thd gallon of paint now but the Kitchen sure is looking great and much brighter now.



Back in the Old Ship Yard all of this has left very little time for shipbuilding. I have however received a set of build plans for my up and coming build the Oliver Cromwell from Chris Hahn and also the laser cut build board from the Lumber Yard along with 4 Pear carving blocks for the figurehead and Stern Decorations. Never to old to teach an old dog new tricks, so I will give this a good try.



I do intend to start a new build log on the Oliver Cromwell in the next week or so in the scratch build area of the Form. And do intend to start making some sawdust starting next week. I have however come across an very interesting PDF article on the web, it is on a battle station, but it does show how to build tiny working blocks that I am very interested in for making the Rudder respond to the Ships Wheel. I will give this a try in the coming year as it looks like it will do the trick. I will attach this PDF article so that my Ship Mates can also enjoy, ENJOY.

It sounds like a lot of work with your kitchen. When some project like this is finished you will be happy to start the next project with your ship.
I am looking forward to see your start of the building log. I will follow it with big interest.
 
Excellent work Lawrence, I have really enjoyed following your build. I got OCCRE's Golden Hind at Christmas so I will be using your build log here to help me. A great looking model ship in a great looking cabinet,

Yes, that PDF article on the battle station was very interesting, I just love his little working blocks that I believe that I will try on my next build the Oliver Cromwell to make the Rudder respond to the Ships Wheel. The Binnacle, however, is just about identical to that of my plans and I have built that and added a single Led Light to light it up a bit at night, talk about getting ahead of my self. I built this between the 34 units of kitchen cabinets that I just painted 3 coats of paint per side, all of that is behind me now and will attach the last bank of 6 units in the AM. Hope to be making some saw duct within the next few weeks, ENJOY.
