GOLDEN HINDE by Canoe21 { Lawrence } Harold A Underhill Plans, Scale 1:60

Nice job on your Golden Hind model Lawrence. Rigging such a model with the full compliment of sails is no easy task. Excellent execution I must say.

Take care,

Bob
Hello Bob

Welcome to my build log on the little ship the Golden Hind. I am always pleased to have a new crew member on board. Your words and comments are always welcome here. Please pull up a chair and join in the fun of building this little ship. Please stop by very often as you will find that the door to the Old Ship Yard is never closed.

Yes the Rigging on these older ships is very enjoyable but requires a lot of research and even then I do not always choose the correct way to do things but all and all I find it very challenging and also very enjoyable at the same time, ENJOY.

Regards Lawrence

Hello Ship Mates

I thank you all for all of your very kind words and overly nice comments on my little build log on the Golden Hind.

Back in the Old Ship Yard, we have finally decided on the flag to fly from the top of the Fore Mast. We have selected and painted a very old English flag with St. Georges Cross in the upper corner and with 6 bars of Red White and Blue. We thought that these colors were rather appropriate as there ate a lot of different configurations and colors for these bars. We almost went with a Pendant but decided against that. Now this leaves the Anchors and there lifts to the Cat Heads to figure out and install, ENJOY.

Hello Ship Mates

I thank you all again for all of your visits to my build log on the little ship the Golden Hind. Also for your very kind words and overly nice comments.

Back in the Old Ship Yard the little fellows and I have had a rather busy week at installing the ship's Anchors and their lifting blocks. Along with those very tiny Anchors saver Bouys that were such a pain to build for some unknown reason. For a while, I thought that I was losing it but presentence finally paid off. I know that they are not perfect that is for sure but nice enough to add to out Golden Hind build. ENJOY.

Your anchor bouyes are looking good, and also the rigging of the anchors are very correct made. Every detail of all ropes, every knot...... great work. And not an easy job, but realy well made.

Hello Dave

I thank you very much for your visit to my build log. Also for your very kind words and overly nice comments. Yes, The Golden Hine is now showing her true beauty, but this is a rather sad stage in her build as it is rapidly coming to an end. She has been a huge challenge and also hours of building enjoyment over the past year, ENJOY.

Back in the Old Ship Yard the little fellows and I spent most of yesterday painting those little Plaques that went on to the Stern Transom. We used an array of tiny paint brushes, needles, and toothpicks to apply the paint to these tiny Plaques, not at all that perfect but for out old trembling hands we have accepted the results and applied them to the Stern Tansom. While this was going on we kept looking at the Stern Balcony and it just seemed to close, the Stern Door would not open all the way and it seemed to look very clammy so to speak, so last night after supper we did remove the old Balcony and extended it around 1/4" or 6.35mm. , a bit of extra work but we feel it was well worth the extra effort, the clammy look disappeared. Now we do have around a dozen Little Guys to add around the decks and the rigging, but they must be painted and mounted first. ENJOY.

Back in the Old Ship Yard the little guys and I have removed the Lower Plaque with the E&R on it and widened the gold lettering, it seems to look a lot nicer with a new fresh wider paint. We have also have spent the last couple of days painting 10 of the crew members of the Golden Hind, we thought that we had 1 dozen but only 10 could be found. Now we must find the appropriate places to place these little guys around the ship, ENJOY.

G'day Lawrence
Sorry it's been quite a long time since I've look at your amazing log.
;)
You must be a bottle of a great whiskey, the older you get, the better you are!
I can't say more than the others except say 'ditto' to every one else's comments.
Bravo mate

Hello Greg

I thank you very much for your visit to my build log on the little ship the Golden Hind. Also for your very kind comments and very nice words. Yes, the Golden Hind build is coming to an end, have to place my 10 little guys around the ship and tidy up a bit and dedust her. Still thinking of a display case but have not made up my mind as yet.

Not sure of my next build as yet but have ordered a set of plans by Hahn for the Oliver Cromwell and building board she is a POF build or I may start working on the group build on the SOS Form the Blandford cross section that looks like a great challenge for me, keep well and hope to hear from you again soon, ENJOY.

Hello Mike Shanks

I thank you very much for your visit to my build log on the little ship the Golden Hind. Also for your very kind words and overly nice comments. Yes, the Golden Hind build is coming to an end, she has been a very challenging build as she is very small for my fat fingers but she has given me many hours of enjoyment over the last 10 or 11 months, ENJOY.

Hello Ship Mates

Once again I thank all of my Ship Mates for all of your visits to my build log on the little ship the Golden Hind. Also for your

very kind words and overly nice comments.

Back in the Old Ship Yard, we have finally mustered up enough get up and go to install the last of our 10 little guys in and around the decks and also the rigging. I do believe that there should have been a few more but then again this is a very tiny ship and we did not to overcrowd things.

This has been a very interesting and also very challenging ship build that my little guys and I have truly enjoyed.

Once again I do thank you all for all of your support and input and encouragement over the last year in the building of this little ship, without all of your help I probably could never have finished this little build. And I do appreciate all of your likes, they are kind of a booster,

We have moved the Golden Hind out of the Old Ship Yard to atop of my Admiral Bernadette's writing table in our living room, for the time being, sure is lonely in the Old Ship Yard now.

ENJOY.

Regards Lawrence

PS - We are still considering a display case for our Golden Hind to live in.IMG_5001.JPGIMG_5002.JPGIMG_5003.JPGIMG_5004.JPGIMG_5005.JPGIMG_5006.JPGIMG_5007.JPG

The Golden Hind has left the Old Ship Yard and now sets upon my Admiral [Bernadette's ] writing table in our living room. I did take a couple of pictures this AM with the Led's lit, the darker picture is with the camera set on Auto. and the second with the camera set on a time exposure. Both pictures are with the Led's on there lowest setting as they can be much brighter and do make a fine night light' ENJOY.

Hello Bob

Thank you very much for your visit to my build log on the little ship the Golden Hind. Also for your very kind words and nice comments. Yes, I do believe that the Led Lighting does add a nice touch to the Golden Hind and she sure makes a nice night light with 4 levels of brightness. I got them from Evans Designs a great bunch of people to deal with and also very helpful. They are also one of the supporters of this Great SOS Form, ENJOY.

Back in the Old Ship Yard things have come to a standstill and my set of build plans from the Lumberyard has not come as yet so the little guys have a bit longer well-deserved vacation. However, I have been making a lot of sawdust in my basement workshop. I have cut out the lower base and cut and glued on the trim for our new [ home for the Golden Hind ] the display case. I have cut and dry fitted all of the wood for the three side panels that will support the glass. The end door will come a bit later when I know its exact size. I have spoken to the glass cutter my Admiral Bernadette as she can cut this stuff very easily or should I say she makes it look that way. Looks like I do have to go to the hardware store to get some silicone to secure the glass to the panel frames that will come a bit later, ENJOY.

PS - sanding is very much still required.
