Grants Xebec 1:60 (using Jabeque Cazador Occre1:60 kit) [COMPLETED BUILD]

Grant, your deck is just waaayy too clean and tidy. Seriously, you need to throw some sand or grit all over it, or at least spill some paint so that we don't feel too embarrassed about displaying our decks on this forum :p
You're absolutely right about Grant's Xebecs' decks; they're immaculate and scream ropes, barrels, swords, a cripple sailor, anything, but hide those decks. ROTF
Good morning Mark and Johan. Thanks Mark, they did come out rather neat. My redo oars will be going on one day…..These will hide plenty of the deck. I am also going to put 2 stern cannons on by the tiller and a cabinet between the tiller and the mast. This cabinet will be for a compass and light. So not much of the deck will remain for the cripple sailor, swords, sand and paint ROTF. Cheers Grant

Looks great Grant, have you given any thought about sails yet? To my way of thinking, a fore and aft rig lends itself much better than square rig when it comes to adding them as you can still see most of the ,(in your case beautiful,) deck. Be interested to know your thoughts.

Cheers JJ..
Good morning Jack. Ha….sails. Never made any before so I’m still in the debate of sails or no sails:). If I do put sails on it will be the lanteen Xebec design of the kit. No square sails. Cheers Grant

Good morning. SB side culverins /swivel canons :

That vast, empty deck does remind me of someting... Catapults, wires, barriers, things with wings...
Despite my rather peculiar associations, this is one heck of a deck with guns, appropriate for Xebecs' scale. Your rework definitely pays off.

For my BN I ordered cloth ATI 5619/03, quite thin and translucent. I drew the sails on the plans and modified until I was happy with the results. After making quite a few sails to establish the correct settings and process, the sewing of the real sails was something of an anticlimax. Oh, just a small test piece won't do you any good, you'll have to be willing to sacrifice some cloth to see tge effect of your machine settings on a complete sail.
But the main point being, if I can make my own sails, you most definitely can.

I agree wholeheartedly with your lateen design remark; square rigged sails will not do her justice.

WOW Grant can't believe I have slipped this far behind on your build. 3D prints, CAD design, taxi strikes with civil unrest, birthdays in there, beautiful canon rigging, and one of the finest outfitting's on ships deck I've seen! Whew I will have to run to keep up with my friend. Beautiful work!!!

Good morning Johan. I am very lucky to have yours and other guys before me who have made wonderful sails. I am particularly lucky to have Peter @Ptèr who made incredible sails on the same ship and he detailed his process wonderfully. Ahhh they are still a way off. Cheers Grant

Did you forgot to put CA glue or wood glue on your ship ? She's so clean. More seriously, I believe you did not varnish anythings ? The wood appear perfect.
Good morning. Thank you. Just a thin layer of poly on the decks. When I started with the lime wood I was disappointed, but after I finished it off with 1000grit paper and some thin poly I was quite surprised .
Wait till you guys see that deck in person! :) First Place Metal
Good morning Heinrich. Thank you my friend you make me blush.
Hi Grant, I can only agree with what others have already said, way above average and a treat to look at.
Thank you kindly Ken
Wonderful work Grant, such a joy to see your progress.

The oars that Paul made you destroy, were they sweeps or for the boats? :D

(Edit: added smiley face :))
Good morning and thank you Roger. Yes Paul (@dockattner ) has that influence on me. I think he also caused most of my redo’s on my Victory- I’m not sure wether to curse him or thank himROTF. The oars are the main oars for the Xebec. 18 of them.
Ouch, that hurts!
Well, the invitation to show her in Amsterdam still stands.
Good morning Johan. It would be an awesome opportunity to bring her up to Amsterdam. I love Amsterdam - had an amazing time with my directors there last year. Unfortunately we have just bought offices and renovations etc have blown my budgetRedface…..my Ouch;)
Cheers Grant

I think having joined SOS and following other builders on this forum has, at least to me, resulted in raising the proverbial bar. Either by the examples being shown or through honest, sometimes brutally so, comments pointing out flaws in one's model. In all it broadens one's skills and sense of quality; re-do's have become part of life.
If you're not sure whether to thank or curse @dockattner, you could always send him a nice bottle of South African wine, cheers!

Please do it with sails, it would reall be waste of potencial. Some models just need sails and this is one of them:)

Luckily we're not in a competition of any sorts...
