Hello all! I was recently gifted a model of the Great Republic that was built by my Grandfather using the plans found in Popular Science. Unfortunately, It was not well taken care of and actually was knocked off the shelf. The result: broken masts, rigging, etc. All the parts and pieces were not included so I am looking for a supplier. I found Modelers central; they seem to be a good source. So I am wondering if there are others. Also I have not been able to find any accurate renderings the ship, so I would really appreciate any leads in that area as well. Lastly, are there any other Great Republics out there?
Thanks in advance, Bob

Hello Bob,welcome aboard.
Take a look at this build log

Thank you one and all for the welcome and the information. Special thanks to Zoly for the link to Rwiederrich's log on his build. Incredible detail. I'll post some shots of where I am beginning... it ain't pretty! And this is after spending a bunch of hours unraveling the masts, spars and swabbing the deck.

Hallo,
we wish you all the BEST and a HAPPY BIRTHDAY
Birthday-Cake

Hi Bob;
Jusssst came across your thread and one thing you probably know by now is that the GR was made from those plans by scratch. No kit was ever made so every piece was made by hand using the plans for dimensions. I hope you can mend back together some of what you have but the rest will be hand made by good ol' YOU.
As of January '26 I am in my third year of making a GR at 1:48 scale. I'm up to making the masts now with a long way to go. Haven't even started the rigging yet but I think I know what your facing. If your ship was my Grandfathers build I think I'd do anything to repair/restore it and keep it as a family heirloom. Things like that are priceless and well worth keeping.
Meantime look at my post "The Great Republic 1;48" listed below and if there's anything I can do for you just let me know. There are very few pictures of the Gr but there are several paintings. Since your model was built to plans and there isn't a lot of info on this ship available I think you should stick to the plans no matter what you see or hear otherwise. Nobody really knows much detail about the ship anyway.
