been progressing with my build these last few days. Finished the boxwood planking and fitted the wales.
I also fitted the side ladder steps. Still needs detailing, but its slowly coming together.

I fitted gunport sweep holes to the model which was not included in the kit. Its the Evergreen styrene square tube 8 mm square and I will paint them.

Small update guys. I have been drilling out holes for tree nailing. Close up examination of my photo shows me that I need to do considerable more detail sanding before applying varnish.
I purchased a small drill from Max at ZHL. It fits into the palm of my hand and takes a .4 sized drill. Its a 3 jaw chuck which I find easier to use than collets, and has 5 different speed settings.
In the absence of any remotely useful or comprehensive instructions in the kit, I refer to my copy of 'The Art of Ship Modelling' by Bernard Frolich and published by A.N.C.R.E . I found it, many years ago, through Pier Books. It is indispensible for construction. It is obvious that CAF, if they actually manufactured the kit, thought so too.

The instructions are very poor, and I have spent considerable time head scratching trying to figure things out . On the one hand its a very detailed kit, but then again there are many omitted items.
For example there's no anchor stocks, only the anchors themselves. A ships boat would have been nice to have been included in the kit. There's countless other details missing, but I am scratch building them as I go.

Further to my recent, I have now discovered 'The Fully-Framed Model, HMN ('N'?!) Swan Class Sloops 1767 - 1780 Volume 1. by D Antscherl. This is a really excellent Vade Mecum and will de-mystify the incredibly vague kit 'instructions'.
Regarding Ship's Boats I agree - although I think I am right in saying that they were not usually shown on Admiralty models - the lines of a longboat, cutter, pinnace, jolly-boat et al were not a subject of discussion for their Lordships. Incidentally, on occasion King George III participated in their discussions himself and provided an informed opinion. He was definitely not 'mad' - that sobriquet was promoted by Lord North and his ministers who caused and supervised the loss of the Colonies. Well, imagine that. Politicians concealing their guilt from the gaze of history.

What is the difference between the ship in the book: swan class and the Enterprise class ship: Enterprise class?
I recently bought this kit and would like something more substantial than the instructions/plans offered with the kit.
Amazon is offering this book for US$164 shipped to Australia so I want to make sure I'm getting the right reference material.
The Swan class is smaller with less guns. Around 14 if I remember correctly.
Enterprise is a 28 gun sixth rate.

I have been researching on the net, and there's many ships of similar size and guns.
For example the HMS Pandora is very similar, and although its slightly different, the main hull and fittings are identical. I have been using this model as a reference.
