Halve Maen (Half Moon) 1:50 Corel kit [COMPLETED BUILD]

Congratulations Ron! You have built a beautiful Halve Maen - I am anxious to watch your progress on the Batavia. As to the more than 3 months - yes.
Don't rush her - she WILL bite!

Hello,

After 30 years doing other things than model building I decided to start building my Second model ship. My first project was Cutty Sark, a beautiful ship but a bid challenging for a first project. This time I was looking for a more modest project.

Since I do love Dutch VOC ships I chose for the Halve Maen. Before starting building I did some research, I read a book about construction of VOC ships and I visited replica’s of Halve Maen in Rotterdam and Batavia in Lelystad, Holland.

Replica Halve Maen
Fortunately in May and June the second replica of the Halve Maen was moored in our living town Rotterdam. We got an extensive tour from the captain himself. I posted some pictures below.

It's great that I stumbled across this thread! I am building an old solid-hull Bluejacket model of the same ship. As an American, I appreciate the Half Moon and its role of discovery of the North-Eastern American continent, particularly New Amsterdam and the Hudson River. Granted, the Mayflower was equally so for New England. The three ships of discovery for Jamestown, VA were the Susan (or Sarah) Constant, the Godspeed, and the Discovery were also important ships: all exist as replica ships in Hudson River, Plymouth. MA, and the three others in Jamestown, VA. Only Half Moon and Mayflower exist as model kits. If Bluejacket manufactured the other three, I would purchase them in a heartbeat!

I will follow along with your Half Moon. Thank you!

Bill
