Recently finished HM Mortar (Nelson's Navy) which you can see at the bottom of page 6 in the gallery on this site. My first full build and it went pretty well with a lot of help from reading and the internet. I am now looking for a new kit and am interested in intermediate level 20-30 inches in length. Have looked at a few ships including caldercraft (Bark endeaver, Brig Badger and Schooner Pickle), a couple from SOS, Modelers shipyard, and Dumas. Would like to know who you would consider a good source and any recommendations for an individual boat will be most appreciated. Best to all and Happy Modeling. Phil Yalowitz (PAY2700).

Hello Phil. The Alert kit by Trident Model is not released for the overseas market yet. We are (SOS) in tight contact with the manufacturing studio @Trident Model and will let everyone know when the kit will be available. As of today, if you wish, you can request to be added to our list of modelers who want to buy this kit. This is no way to guarantee assurance, as SOS will not involve in the sales process. This should give an idea to the Trident model of how many kits they may need to produce. Here is the link.

If interested, please reply to the thread.

Hi Phil The CC kits are great. I have done the endeavour, it was my 2nd kit. Apart from the bluff hull planking, it is a really nice kit.
I recommend any of the occre kits, as they are an affordable alternative supply and make nice kits. The doco is fairly good also.
Try a different type of ship, for a change. Paddle steamer, corsair etc. I enjoyed the occre xebec and its a great finished kit.
Stick to anything 1:64 or larger.

I wold not recommend any panart kits , nice ships but the doco is a real pain. Also stay way from the now defunct AL. They are reasonably cheap kits, but the doco is really really bad.

It really depends on what type of ship you want to build , pick on that appeals to you, as it will continue to peak your interest.( which you will need with intermediate or higher).

You might want to look at the two models from Vanguard Models - Cutter Alert and HMS Speedy. I have both but have not started as I am finishing up on another project. Materials and documentation look really good. Fast service. Great response. Took only a few days from GB to US. the owner, Chris Watton was a long time designer for a major kit mfgr.

Hi PHIL, for my 5 cents worth I would highly recomend the ALERT KIT FROM TRIDENT MODELS for a number of reasons, this will be a very large GROUP BUILD so plenty of help avalible, also this kit is utilizing the most modern technology, for documents and instructions, i totally agree with BRIAN. Don

If proof was needed that this hobby is addictive, it is the feeling that we have to have several ships "on the shelf" waiting to be built. Isn't it wonderful !

https://vanguardmodels.co.uk/. Vanguard Models Alert or Speedy. Many Caldercraft and Amati models, the two best kit makers in my opinion, were designed by Chris Watson. Chris is launching his own company to offer designs and kits the way he wants to. I ordered the Speedy on a Saturday and had it in my hands on Wednesday. The kit is all Pearwood, has exceptional instructions and plans and detailed lasered parts. I’ve built a number of kits, this is the best one I’ve seen. Vanguard models has a post string on MSW if you want to read more about his design process.

Hello All,
thanks for the advice. After looking around and deliberating, I ordered Vanguard's HMS ALERT - VERSION 2. Looks like a great looking ship if I can build it right and maybe I will consider the HMS speedy from the same company next. The documentation really looks excellent. Many thanks to you
