Hello!

Some fellow Dutch shipbuilders encouraged me to join SOS. I did so last week.
After being a silent follower of the wonderful projects here for a while, I'll share my own building activities with you.

I've been building historical ship models for several years. After completing Corel's HMS Bellona, I started working on Artesania Latina's Bounty in 2021. In this build log, I'll show you how I got to the stage the project is now (Picture below). I'll do this by describing the various stages of the model's construction separately. (Please keep in mind that English isn't my native language!)

I used the Artesania Latina kit as the basis for this project. As the build progressed, I added more and more my own scratch-build parts.

I hope you enjoy it and that I will find some helpful advice here and there! Thanks in advance!

Good morning Eric. It is good to see another Bounty log. You have made wonderful progress so far. Welcome to SOS. Cheers Grant

Part 1: The Hull
(May to December 2021)

I started construction in May 2021, naturally with the assembly of the hull. Unfortunately, there are no photos available from the earliest stages.
Although the Artesania kit provides a complete interior, I chose to plank the hull on both sides.

Initially, I had difficulty with planking the bow of this type of vessel. The first two attempts failed. In both cases, I removed the planks.
After studying the photo below, I realized that with this type of hull shape, not all planks can extend all the way to the bow.

Before starting the third planking attempt, I used very thin slats (of the same width) to follow the natural curves of the wood. This also allowed me to determine where planks needed to be shortened.

Using this method, I more or less succeeded in planking the bow properly. In total, I had to drop 5 planks on the starboard and port side.

Good morning Eric. That planking is awesome. I remember when I did mine I tapered each plank more so I avoided the "dropper" planks however they look very impressive. Cheers Hrant
