I've missed this one for a while so i had to do some extra reading, but i see that you are going to make a beautiful Bounty of it. Have fun with it.

Good afternoon Peter. Fun is being had, no doubt. Plenty of challenges along the way however that is part of this hobby. Thanks for the compliment and checking out my face lift. Cheers GrantI've missed this one for a while so i had to do some extra reading, but i see that you are going to make a beautiful Bounty of it. Have fun with it.![]()

I gave your post a thumb, but thats for the renovation.Good morning
Today I post with a heavy heart. One of my shareholders, friend and colleague was shot and killed on the weekend. Unathi was a legend in our office - man I miss him.

Go well brother.
My Bounty :
Over past few weeks I decided to redo the deck- she was starting to look like one giant walnut.
View attachment 454210
Planked with Maple veneer now at least when I add more walnut for deck furniture etc a decent contrast will apply.
View attachment 454211
As the Bounty was built in 1784 (originally The Bertha merchant ship), I added a margin plank, joggled the planks into it. A 3 butt pattern was used and I cut the maple into 3mm x 70mm planks. I attempted waterways with laminated veneer planks, did not shape too well and the bend up front was a nightmare- went in anyway. No spirketling.

I butchered the measurements and together with the lack of symmetry from the original build (never realised how poor this was), adjustment planks were required at the end. Close ups : I still need to scrap and poly the deck.View attachment 454214View attachment 454216

Treenails will come…..
I previously made the bitts (I cut these out of an 10x10mm walnut piece of wood left over from the Victory.) and shape some laminated veneer . pics.

Hinges - cut from brass sheet, with a tiny hinge under using a nail strapped in masking tape. Brass blacked….

Grant, my sincerest condolences at the loss of your friend and colleague. SA can be a dangerous place yet I never once felt unsafe or in danger while cycling around Cape Town a city I fell in love with. ------. Oh, and BTW I'm totally blown away by your zero $ reconstruction. Beautiful work. Cheers.Good morning

I gave your post a thumb, but thats for the renovation.
But at first my condolences for the lost or you friend/colleague. I can feel with you, Grant.
About the deck planking, what a nice outcome. With the scarf joints, nibbling etc. I looks very nice.
Regards, Peter
Ditto with Peter. My condoleance to. Capetown can be a dangerous place. Keep save.
my dear friend Grant
My condoleance to you
you are doing wonderful work on the ship with your attitude to the deck planking and other parts
Such sad news for you and your company Grant. I love your work so I gave a 'like', but I am bummed you lost someone close to you. May you all somehow find peace in this season of grieving.
I’m sorry to read the sad news of your friend and colleague Grant, my sincerest condolences.
As I too now turn to your Bounty I am in complete agreement with the praise offered by the others. You are doing a heck of a job on that renovation.
So sad to lose anyone to sudden death and I feel for you. Your positive attitude and your build will keep you going though, and I wish you well.
Really sad news Grant

Good afternoon gentlemen. Thank you for your condolences and concern. It is much appreciated. Cape Town is a beautiful city and mostly a safe place to live. Unathi was in the wrong place at the wrong time and was caught in the crossfire of a feud between gangs.Grant, my sincerest condolences at the loss of your friend and colleague. SA can be a dangerous place yet I never once felt unsafe or in danger while cycling around Cape Town a city I fell in love with. ------.
