HMS Beagle - Steve's Occre Kit

Thank you Allan for your kind words. I have told my wife, the day i cannot learn something just dig the hole, it's over. :)
The drawings would be very helpful, i do have a German friend that would most likely help with translating to German if you would like.

After much careful sanding of the bulkheads, the first two pieces of planking have been added.
After the glue set, i removed the nails, it seems that they would cause high spots or problems of that nature when adding the second, finish layer.
I am struggling with all the fuss to get the first layer perfect. Certainly, the goal is to do a nice, neat job of it but if it requires some fillers and sanding for a smooth surface, that seems ok to me, it all gets covered by the second layer which is much more important. What am i missing?

Maybe to much fussing instead of just having fun building?

Instead of nails that Occre would have you use for holding the planks in place, you may want to use modified binder clips. For areas where the clips are not practical I have used tack with broad heads and attached them to the bulkhead immediately adjacent to the plank so the head holds the plank in place as the glue sets. That way you do not put a hole in the planking.

Another thing you may want to consider is to chamfer the edge of the new plank that lies along the edge of the previous plank you laid down. This will get them to fit together easier. You can sand an angle on the edge or use a mini plane that you can pick up cheaply. I found this one on Amazon I believe.

When I looked on Amazon I only found a cheap scraper made of plywood with poor reviews. A I ink would be helpful.if not too much trouble.
