HMS Enterprize 1774 Scale Scale 1/160 Midships Cross Section

Hmmm...perhaps another plank - maybe two, but I think planking the whole thing would diverge from the overall theme of the model, which is to have some exposed framing. Just my opinion.
It's a good point. I might try a few and see how it look.

Great idea about the oars Gunther. I wonder how many there would be and how best to make them?

Hi Richard,

I've been thinking about it and I have an idea of how I'd like to implement it. As an example, I took the oar of the Athena's dinghy on a scale of 1:75. The oar is carved from a toothpick and painted. I'd like to use the same shape. I think I'll try it with thin wire or solder...

What a novel idea! You can get 0.3mm solder, which scales to around 2" diameter. Perhaps just a tad too thick, but at that scale, it won't be noticeable. It should be easy to flatten one end for the blade. I'm looking forward to seeing how this comes out.

Your pinnace turned out great. It appears that you reverted back to the original method of construction. It seems to have worked out well!

That pinnace looks really good. You've certainly nailed it!
The solder idea for the oar is intersting, but would obviously need to be painted which is a no-no for me. I'll see what can be done in boxwood. I've tons of thin scrap from previous models.

Hi Richard,

Okay, I'm curious to see how it will look and what ideas you have... Wood sounds good, but it would have to be really small! :D

Ahoy Russ,

I didn't go back to the normal construction method. I thought I'd try the version without the complete kit and just support the keel. I can tell you that I'm not happy with the result, as it took an incredibly long time. Just aligning the keel takes almost forever.

I could have saved myself the trouble. But you never stop learning! In future, if I have the opportunity to build any more small boats, I will build them directly from the frame with frames. But thank you very much for your praise, I will continue to strive to achieve a great result. :D Thumbsup

My mistake, it looked like you had used the jig to place the keel, frames and floor and then had removed tit to glue on the gunwales. Regardless, it looks great from my house!
