HMS MERCURY 1779 1:72 Shipyard

Thank you for the kind words. I saw you were building HMS "FLY". I bought one too and it is waiting for its turn. But first I have to finish HMS "MERCURY", and I also started HMS "SURPRISE" in 1:48 scale. But I can see that the garage is getting crowded. That's why I'll finish "MERCURY" first. Hope I have enough patience. Best regards from Poland.
I'm running out of room also. Love the fancy scroll work on the hull. Is it a photograph or printed then applied? Reminds me of the HMS Winchelsea.

It's printed one. Yes, I have looked at the HMS WINCHELSEA model many times. It's a great model with no doubt. The similarity is undoubtedly there, but they are ships from the same era and similar technical solutions were used.

Yes - The Mercury (1779) is an 28 guns Enterprise-class und Winchelsea (1764) is a 32 gun Niger-class
But the painted ornaments and friezes were the taste of the time.
Very good detail with the painted cathead

Belfry and ship's bell for HMS Mercury. The belfry is partly made of walnut wood and the upper part is made of the set. I painted the roof of the belfry black. I figured the black roof fits better. Unfortunately, thick paper has a tendency to delaminate, which is annoying. That is why I made the columns of the belfry from walnut wood on a milling machine. The beam for hanging the bell is also made of wood.20221105_205943.jpg20221105_205634.jpg20221105_205649.jpg20221105_205723.jpg20221105_205732.jpg20221105_205810.jpg20221105_205852.jpg20221105_205905.jpg

Making a capstan on a quarter deck. The base is made of walnut wood. Capstan construction made of paper. After gluing, I dipped the paper in epoxy glue. After this treatment, the thick paper stops delaminating and can be sanded.

Bravo - this capstan is looking great - very accurate work

Pozdrawiam , Piotrek.
