I've been stuck on the H-Bow bitts for this model but I think / hope I've got them right. In the meantime I finished the anchors and have assembled and painted all the canon carriages and have started putting the barrels and fittings on. I guess next will be assembling the stern, installing the waterways and the spirketting.

Finally finished the 3D stern / transom but not sure like the windows in white. I might try to tone them done a bit.
And attaching it will be another matter.

I attached the transom and started planking / spirketting? the inside walls of the gun deck.
I'm thinking once that's done I would position the gun ports and glue them in place?
Then start planking the hull?

Moving on and thanks to some advice received, I've attached the gun ports to one side and 3 on the port side. Not sure if I will install the sweep and sheave ports or not. Then I guess I will start planking the hull.

Gun ports are done and the also the 2 rear doorways. And added a couple planks. One more plank to put on the side then I'll flip her over and start planking the hull. I'm assuming this is a single planked hull, so I guess I'll have to get it right the first time.

Thanks, I did a terrible job planking the HMS Terror but have watched lots of Videos posted here and on YouTube so hopefully it will go better with this build. Plus this time I have a plank bender.

I've cut out all of the gun ports and started planking the hull. I noticed the keel wasn't square and the rudder was on the same plate, so one side is wider than the other and has quite a good curve in it. Took a fair bit of sanding and filing to get it straight.

I realize this is the first layer of planking, but be careful on the second layer. The garboard should not go past the boxing joint and ride up the stem. If it does you will have to reduce the breadths of the planks at the bow too much in order for them to end properly in the rabbet.
The below is a planking expansion of the shapes of planks, albeit a slightly longer ship. Hope it helps, at least a little.

Thanks Allan, but I don't think there is a second planking with this kit. The planks are 1.5 mm thick and that basically fills the rabbit.

Learning the various terms is like learning a new language at times. Here you go. This is for the majority of 18th century British ships. It was a bit different on earlier ships to about 1715 when all the frames were still square frames, before cant frames came into use.

Hi Neil,
As far as I know, there is only one boxing joint on the frame work, that being where the forward end of the keel mates to the stem. Hopefully the following will be more helpful.

Finished the planking the hull and made a terrible job of it. Will need lots of filler. Glad it's being painted.
Plus my second attempt at the windlass out of a scrap piece of cherry.

Based on my own experience, paint is surely our friend at times! Next time planking comes into play and won't be painted over, the tutorials in print and videos posted here at SoS should help a lot.

I did much worse on the Terror I built earlier this year, so I guess I am improving. I built the Constucto USS Emma over 30 years ago, no Google, no YouTube and no forums and did fairly well with the planking. But the hull on that ship is more streamlined.
