actually don this is not a project I am personally developing I just created the bulkheads because I can draw very fast in CAD so it is no big deal for me to draw them and offer the drawings free to anyone who wants to build a hull or model of the Ontario or any ship.

it took me 7 hours 32 minutes and 42 seconds from start to finish. I just like to draw.

I can Email a printable JPEG file of the bulkheads to anyone who wants them. I suggest cutting out a set of bulkheads out of foam board to proof the drawings. if they look good then cut them out of plywood, use filler blocks and shape out a hull.

I was thinking if would be a good idea to add more bulkheads between the gunports,I think they would make the planking much easier and smoother as this hull going to be pretty large.What do you think?

I was thinking the vary same thing after looking at the setup at 1:32 scale that is a 2 inch space. You are right the closer the bulkheads the smoother the hull. So either add 7 more bulkheads OR add filler blocks. If you use 1/4 inch thick plywood then the space is 1 1/2 inches if you use 3/8 plywood then the space is 1 1/4
this brings the count to 24 bulkheads and if you look at Donnie's build this hull is the same size and it has 12 bulkheads
 
I would use fine polyurethane foam instead of wood filler blocks,much easier to work with and makes her unsinkable :D ,but would be nice to have those extra bulkheads.
 
G'day Zoltan, when I built the Investigator at 1/48 scale she had a hull length of 25inches and I had 22 bulkheads at 3/8 inch thickness,I believe from memory the room and pace was 1inch, hope this helps, see attached pic,

Hello John,thanks for looking in,yes ,this is what I am talking about,with so many bulkheads the whole structure would be very sturdy and will leads to a very smooth planking.
 
Hello Dave,can you please email me all the bulkheads and the keel in 3 scale ?I wonder if the 1/24 bulkhead will fit on A4 to print them out.Thanks.
 
I tried to create a workable file here is the CAD drawing with added bulkheads looking closer it is nice and clean when I export the file out of CAD to a JPEG this is what it looks like and this is a small scale so if you in large the file to 1:32 scale the drawing will break up to nothing but big pixels you would need a cad program or drawing program that could import a DWG or DXF file if I send a CAD file then it has to be plotted out or if anyone can tell me how to create workable and printable files

I think Tiff file is better for draws and plans than jpg,or even pdf.I did a quick research and I found this.You can convert dfx and dwg files to tiff or pdf files.

well most of the problems with the quality has to do with export settings and setting the right resolution.

Also the best highest quality image is a PNG file. tiff used to be good but you get better quality from a png file.

I like to use Corel Draw to do image files but usually I can go direct from cad to PDF that is why when I find drawings in a PDF I can tell if it was exported from a cad file due to the high quality. It is the preferred method and most printers prefer to print from a pdf for that reason the high quality.

if you want to send me a copy of the file I will see what I can do or just export it as a pdf direct from your cad files
 
Thanks Joseph,we have to wait for Dave ,he has the files,as he noted earlier each bulkhead will be printed separately and for the keel I am not sure how many A4 sheets needed.
 
looks like a cool ship though. When I finish the tracings I just started I will have an unusual ship going on so it will be one them cool ones like this one
 
Ahoy Mates,
I wish I knew everything about how get ship plans from my computer. :oops: Is it possible to take the pdf file to someplace lice office depot or a similar print shop. I used them before to make copies of large plan sheets but nothing more. How large a sheet of paper would you need? Do you think they would have the software to interrogate the file and print plans? I will give them a call and see what they say. :handgestures-thumbup:

yea kinkos and the like type stores can print stuff out like i said most prefer pdf files. you can also get you one them little thumb drives of like 8 or 16 gigs copy the files on to that and hand it to the person at the print shop
