Last weekend I received my bag with a selection of small pieces of veneer. These I will use to veneer the wall panels of the large meeting room.
The packages are supplied by a local veneer specialist with pieces which are to small to use for furniture etc. Perfect for shipmodelling. On the picture you see just 10% of the veneers supplied.
The veneer I cut with an exacto knife. See the first start below.
The zebrano wood at the bottom will be part of the bench and partly covered with cloth.

You are doing the right thing to decrease the thickness of the scroll decorations, they look much more realistic this way. And there is also a trick by which the scroll decos can be made even better, if the edges on the rear side are filleted by a radius of 0.6-0.8 mm. The best tool for this is a diamond or steel cylindrical or conical burr. Then on the front side the finish can be given by radial bristles, which remove the unwanted remnants and polishes up the surface. These come in different grits, the best are the 120-150 for this purpose. And for the final finish - clean-up I use radial goat hair brushes. These don't discolour the surface as the black Dremel brushes do.

Hi Maarten, I love your fascinating miniature work using real materials. Have you ever considered using book binding leather for your furniture upholstery? I used some years ago to upholster seats in a poacher model car. I got rid of the fake plastic upholstery supplied with the kit and the paper thin book binding leather turned out magnificent and realistic. Very easy to work with and fits perfectly around shapes and inside crevices. I still have some lying around.

Finally back after summer holidays followed by a trade show for a week in Hamburg and some bussiness travels. During our summer holidays we went with our motorhome through Ireland and as the weather in Ireland is not allways like summer I took a small workshop with me.
As well as the parts for the gun carriages.
The parts are laser cut and do need removal of char. Secondly the two pieces of the sides are simulated by a laser burned line on the side. This line I extended on the front side and other side to really show these as individual parts as far will be visible after finishing the carriage.
The following was preparing all the rear axles.
And the front which is placed at an angle.
Resulting in 7 carriages at the end of the holidays. Now off course the rest of the gun cariages still needs to be finished but that will be in a later stage.

Last Saturday I finally had some time to start up my RC project again. Returning back to the main cabin. My idea is to show the riches of the British Empire of the 18th century to decorate the main cabin with all kinds of wood coming from all corners of the empire. From pear, beech, wallnut, mahogany, ebony etc etc. To create this I have purchased a selection of veneers as already shown before.
For the sides I have made a paneling with beech, zebrano and wallnut. Against this the book cabinets get a basis of mahogony which I will finish with a nice contrasting veneer still to select, maybe a birdseye maple.
Some of the hardwood veneers are very brittle and before cutting them I tape them to avoid splicing. Here after cutting the tape is removed.
Before fitting the veneer to the cabinet I have fitted the glass in the door which is enclosed by the veneer. The window frames in the paneling will be cut out after finishing the veneer and sanding.
And roughly dry fitting.
This is all still work in progress hopefully coming week I have a view hours to continue.

Wait before doing that, on the 4h model site there is already a discussion from CAF that they are working on a full frame kit of the rc with 5 axis 3d carvings. There are already samples of the figure head of this model.
