If the line you chose to rig is judged to be too white later, you can darken the lines with a small sponge brush or bristle brush by wetting the rigging with diluted stain. It may create color contrast in the strands, if you are looking for that effect.

I am wondering if it's possible to rig the running rigging to the sails and the yards before installing them on masts? Do you take it that far?

Well I'm not installing sails on this models, but when people do, they normally attach them to the yards before hanging the yards on the ship.
What you see on the last photo is the yards condition in which I proceed to mount them on the masts

ok thanks. I have never installed sails on any of my ships but I want to on my current one. Still a long way down the road before I get to that step, though.

That could turn into a real tangled mess of you aren't very careful, and make each line into a coil held with masking tape, which doubles as a label. IMHO it isn't worth the effort, especially if you are adept at belaying lines using tweezers or rigging hooks in tight confines. Your mileage may vary...

Yeah i am pretty good with the rigging hooks and tweezers. Probably better to put the sails after the yards are installed

Well, personally speaking, I would add as much of the running rigging as I could before installing the yards - but that is more by choice. But adding sails after the yards are on the ship is very challenging - and its rather easy before.
ok thanks. I'll give it a shot.
