Hello Kurt,

that looks fantastic. I wish I could do something like that. it's just great. Have you already printed one of these? I would love to see the bull...

Cheers

Hey Kurt,

and I will be there and look forward to your construction progress.

Hey Kurt,

it's really your own fault! How do you do it? Your drawings look fantastic!!! I'm so excited to see your first cutout in real life. Please please please, don't keep us in suspense for so long!!! Show us one of these figures...Just “Wow”

Best regards

Ich auch! However, I am not prepared to be at that stage yet.I need to find a place to put printer, then speak to a couple of our generous members to learn the fastest means of getting it running. Believe me, I'm very eager to start pumping out parts. God knows how many of them there are on the Sovereign.

Hey Kurt,

how many? If I see your picture correctly, this ship is covered through and through with pictures and decorations. I'm sure your printer will be delighted and smoke like a chimney during operation.

I'm already looking forward to your first prints.

Best regards

There are so many, I haven't counted them. The next one will be #70.

Here's a glimpse into my latest approach to making 3-D objects in Blender. I'm still a rank novice at modeling in this program, but some new tools have made sculpting objects so much easier, and they didn't cost more than a few dollars. After tracing the basic shapes off of the Payne engraving, and making a plane of polygon shapes, the shapes are extruded upwards at different altitudes to make them three dimensional.

Then, using the Quad Swords tool, the entire object is chopped up into fine cubes. Thtis adds many more points which can be moved when sculpting in the next step.

Then, the program is switched to Sculpt Mode and the sculpting tools are used to push and pull the object details and create humps, valleys, and textures. For this object, sculpting is just beginning. Facets can still be seen, but they are so very small that they shouldn't be very noticeable in the resin printed part.

After sculpting is done, the object is simplified by reducing the number of polygons back to a reasonable number. Other parts are joined to the object, such as the "HM" and crown below, and filters are used to clean up duplicate points, polygons, and other messy features to create finished model. Animals, human figures, and other complex organic shapes can be made by modifying 3-D models other people have made and downloadable off the internet. This saved lots of time, especially if you are like me and cannot sculpt intricate objects which look right. The "HM" and crown are made visible below so you can see how that looks. After it is printed, the object can be resized or reshaped in the computer and re-printed again if necessary.

Next steps... After sculpting some raised round areas on the top, Blender is set back to Edit Mode and the Decimate function is used to reduce the number of polygons, making the object contain less data while retaining its shape.

Finally, the HM and crown are merged with background object using the boolean function "Union".

After cleaning up duplicate points and polygons, the object is given a gold texture, even though it will only be used for resin printing, just to see how it looks.
