How I got started in this hobby. A couple of years ago the wife and I went to Boston to visit my sister. While there we went into a gift store in Rhode Island that had all of these beautiful looking wooden model sail boats. I said to myself I would love to build one of these. That Christmas, my wife bought me the Smuggler from Blue Jacket. I started it with lots of enthusiasm that petered out after a couple of months. Bottomline.... I retired 1 1/2 years ago and decided to finish the Smuggler. When I sent pictures to my sister she stated that lots of models have been distroyed by wives who attemptef to remove the dust. So... I decided to build a display case. Here is the finish product.

I really had so much fun building the Smuggler that when I finished, I started looking for a new build and decided to build a plank on frame model. The HMS Victory by Mantua/Panart #738 was my choice.
I started this build back in October 2019. It is my second ever build. I was worried that it wouldn't be good enough that someone would be interested in my build. I did take a chance at trying a build log on a different website and have a couple of people that follow along. Here are some of the pictures at the beginning of the build.

Spent a lot of time cutting and fitting the brass frames in each gun port. The goal was for them to snug up flush to the sides of the ship. Some of the frames had to be bent and twisted to fit along the curves at the bow.

Thank you to all who made these positive comments. To answer SNOWY's question of putting sails on this....... yes. The Smuggler was my first build ever. I decided to put sails on her and made a total of 4 sets (trial and error reason for 4 sets) and finally ended up with one I liked. I had fun making the sails and think making sails on the Victory and adding the additional rigging will be a challenge that I'm looking forward to.
 
Well this is how I spent my day... building 1 deck gun. I didn't like the suggested way the instructions wanted you to construct the gun so I turned to "the Anatomy of Nelson's Ships" by C Nepean Longridge. This book shows a little more detail and the correct way the cannon should look, although I did claim some artistic license to get it to look more like it should be.
