Greetings to those present here. Please help me choose a kit manufacturer.
I am planning to build an HMS Vicory but I don't know which manufacturer.

I choose between:
HMS Victory 1:78 - Mantua (Sergal)
HMS Victory 1:75 - Billing Boats
HMS Victory 1:78 - Panart

I definitely prefer the detail and quality of workmanship. Alternatively, recommend another manufacturer. Thank you.

I was wondering, but the price is already quite high. I'd say I'll stay in the middle price category. Otherwise, thanks.
Maybe you think about it once more....
You will work on this model for 1, 2 or even more years. Maybe 1.000 hours
The Caldercraft version is more expensive, yes, but is with big distance the the best Victory model - with much better quality etc.
So you would maybe pay 0,50 Euro / working hour more -> and you would get more fun and less frustration for the hole 1.000 hours

I would buy Caldercraft. No doubt. Here they sell it a bit cheaper:

Also, if you assemble a Caldercraft model nicely you would have some better potential to sell it when complete. IMHO it is not as much with Mantua, Panart et cetera.

Go with Caldercraft, I am on my second of their kits and no complaints - you get what you pay for and Customer Support from JoTika is excellent should you ever need it. . Having built one Panart model I suggest you avoid them like the plague!

Money is not everything - you get what you pay for and it is not worth the aggravation in a kit that you have to struggle with - I would go with the Caldercraft Vic and save yourself some worries and aggravation.

I assume you're not at all interested in the Heller plastic kit? My personal view is that the best builds of that kit rival the wood builds I've seen on the forums. There are a lot of excellent aftermarket parts out there for this kit and the final cost is likely to be far less than that of the Caldercraft. But I do recognise the plastic kits are not to everyone's taste.

I´m building the Mamoli (The cheapest) Actually I´m using Y.T. Build log as my refference, He has obtained a wonderfull piece of art, but there is a lot of talent and experience needed, I've seen the Billing Boats Victory and it is a much larger scale and very "cost efficient". In your shoues I would consider this option soriously!

Just FYI I am building the Mantua Model , there are a lot of mistakes that you have to build around , much scratch building and extra cost for parts not supplied that should have been just an example all gun barrels supplied as the same bore which measures to 36 Ib cannon Victory carried 12 Ib 25 Ib and 36 lb .

I have it due to arrive cheers Phillip
Hey PhillipCollis, I am building this same one from AliExpress the 1:150 model right now and have been doing so over the last two months. Almost completed the hull planking.

I would not recommend beginners to cut their teeth on this cheaper but complex plywood lazer model. There are no real plans or directions for this model just a few drawn pictures with numberings. A lot of in the dark areas that you will have to search on YouTube to fill in the gaps. You can also review GorHog’s build on here of the same model.

Incidentally PC, I am also in NZ Auckland.

Hi

Ok where are you located..?..

Im in Patumahoe south auckland

I did a smaller model at like 225 mm long hull..Called

Halyco schooner

Increadably hard to bend thin ply in many different directions at the same time

Then i remembered that i built the USS Alabama 2 meters scratch build and i had to soak the wood
for several hours and i did the same with the very small model and still tough to make a good finish..

So im leaving it as is and not going to cover or paint as i like it as it is..

Cheers Phillip

North Shore Browns Bay. If you post up your progress will be keen to follow. Plans on this is sketchy so need to do a lot of guess work.

None of the above.

If you want a good kit bashing - Chinese. V good.

Caldicraft review look good.

Anyone out there in the forum can help via kits?

Go with the company that offers the best quality, parts, plans, instructions. Most complete, eliminating need for expensive aftermarket parts. Best customer support, and modeler's satisfaction. Why hobble yourself right out of the gate? With a project this size, the currency cost of this model will amortize considerably over the life of the build. I venture to say down to next to nothing.;)
