Years ago a friend of mine, a model maker, began the construction of a jabeque according to the plans of the 18th century Spanish naval engineer Jorge Juan y Santacilia. My friend abandoned the construction and gave me "the wreck". Starting from that base, many years later, I began to continue this project, on June 15. A not very complex project, somewhat minor, but one that I am enjoying this summer. At the request of Uwe, I put a summary of the works.
First some photos of the base from which I started, the model as my friend left it

Hallo my friend,
I am very happy, that you decided to show us also this project - and I am not disclosing a secret, when I say, that it will be a very interesting building log...
Many Thanks for starting this log Thumbsup

No hace falta, aquí, mejor madera.

This jabeque is peculiar, it differs from the usual and traditional jabeques of the Mediterranean, for example of the Le Requín type, French although of Balearic "technology". Jorge Juan made some designs in order to modernize and redesign the jabeques with mathematical and scientific methods. Thus, for example, while the traditional jabeques (Le Requín or El Cazador) have their frame design in "V", mine has it in "U", likewise their lines are less abrupt and sheer, as well as their arrangement of elements is different, getting closer to the design of a ship.
As for the model, starting from a base already made by my friend, I opted for a closed and painted model. as for his living and dead work, however enriched with a very careful carpentry in American boxwood in all the roof elements.
The first step was to complete the hull closure. I don't know what wood my friend used to close the hull, I suspect that linden or, maybe ramín. I continued his work with samba or ayous wood (Triplochiton scleroxylon). Low quality wood, cheap and very easy to work, but suitable to be painted later. Better wood is not needed here

You have really your own special style with the paintings and ornaments - and a very special ship
- looking very good - and interesting that you are showing guns as "ready for action" and also two lashed.
Interesting are also the small channels for the pumped water - great detail

In Spanish it is "abretonado" ... it is taken from the Album of the Marqués de la Victoria
