His eulogy written by Mike Shanks:
After a long battle with heart disease, Jim Januzik passed away peacefully on 2/15/2023. My wife and I attended his funeral service this morning. He was 73 years old.

JimJ was the only one who lived local enough to have visited my shop on multiple occassions. His wife Khris had a family member who served aboard the USRC Bear. Jim approached me with a set of plans from the Smithsonian curious if I would be willing to help design a model he could build for his family.

The story of how the prototype for Jim's 1:64 scale POB model developed can be reviewed here:

Jim then went on to start the build of his actual model reaching the hull planking stage of the build. His short log on Weasels can be viewed here:

Jim also had a build log for his USRC Bear out on SOS at this link:

Jim was more than just a model ship builder. He was a talented artist owning his own tatoo business for 30 years. He also built model rockets, plastic kits, model railroads, and dioramas. One of his more interesting model forms was "cast mold". Thankfully a legacy of his work can be viewed at the link here:

Jim also loved motorcycles and was a veteran of the US Air Force. We had a lot in common.

Perhaps we will yet see his USRC Bear completed. I can't think of a better way to remember him.
