K63 HMS Picotee 1941 1/48 scale early short forecastle Flower Class Corvette

Hi folks.
I have been working to add some detail to the port side engine casing and securing the depth charges on their wooden plinths, apart from that I have been making some little brass turnbuckles. You can buy these but the bought ones look too large. I recon that I will need around twenty of them, enough to keep me busy. The wooden raft seems to have been secured by a pair of wide belts according to the photograph of Picotee so I have been experimenting with width and colour trying to find something that will blend in rather than stand out too much. Next I will work my way round to starboard. There is still a lot to add to the engine room deck along the way, including two water tanks, but so far I cannot find out their size; the 'Lambert' plans are as useful as a chocolate teapot!

Some pics.

ROTFROTFROTF

Love the level of detailing, JJ. How many plastic models have you made? This seems like a masterclass...
Thank you Paul,
I would have made plenty of kits as a kid, then since I started making wooden ships I have got given a few plastic kits as presents and have been working through them to pass the time. So far this lot;

Keeps me busy.

All the best JJ.

Your build continues to amaze! I have used dental tape (similar to dental floss) for belts. It is very thin. I have also used thin strip of Tamyia masking tape (it comes in a lot of different sizes.

Thanks Rob, thats a good tip about the Tamiya tape I have some 1mm size and will see what I can do with it. When I look at these straps in old photos they look like they are made out of canvas.

Cheers JJ.

Some photos of the installation of the last of the Depth Charges in their cradle's. If things look a bit skew-whiff it's because they still have to be glued down, but seeing it all together gives me an idea what the final positions will be. The cradles are much modified Micro Master parts. My heart in mouth cutting them into small sections and rebuilding them. Still it's nice to contribute to the doubling the NZ GNP !

The only decision left is do I leave the stern doors open or closed?

Cheers JJ..

Hi Jack!
If you're planning to display the model on pedestals, without crew figures or diorama elements, then, in my opinion, keeping the doors closed is the way to go. It gives a cleaner, more finished presentation.
That said, you're the Captain of this build, so the final decision is yours to make!

Nice new detailed parts, Jack. The first pictures shows her with one open and one closed. A good alternative ‘in between’.
