Thanks for this nice post, Peter. I'm not so sure about being a masterpiece - but I enjoyed this build immensely. Just the right mix of that's impossible... but there might be a way... for my personality and aptitude.I couldn't agree more! She's brilliant in every respect! I know what a masterpiece looks like, Thanks for treating us to the creation of one (IMHO). I cheerfully anticipate your next build log. (No pressure.)![]()
(And having the privilege of making a good new friend!)
Pete
My thanks, Roy. Always learning...Paul, I have also enjoyed watching your ship come together. You brought many skills to the project and developed many more to satisfy your mind's eye.
Thank you, Ken. It is the enhancements to the kit that I find the most satisfying. Of course, that entails research which is not necessarily something I long for. Having a book series dedicated to this class of ship made the research convenient even when I did not always follow it precisely.Congratulations Paul! It has been enlightening. You've truly produced a work of art. You've not only executed a high-end kit flawlessly, but scratch-enhanced it, making it yours. Thanks for taking us all on your journey with you.
That will never work. We are all so used to your well developed and superb skills we’d recognize a Kattner build anywhere…….. I'll probably come back under a new avatar and nickname - that will take the pressure off.
Thank you, Roger! That will never work. We are all so used to your well developed and superb skills we’d recognize a Kattner build anywhere.
I join the others in offering my congratulations on your wonderful accomplishment Paul.
And in writing that you have just blown your attempt at going undercoverThank you, Roger!
How about if I switch the blue background? Change over to the much-admired green cutting mat? Only use my left hand? Build a ship with copper plates? (I have taken a vow to never do that.) Don't make me run off to that OTHER forum!
Hi PaulThanks, Maarten.
The ship's lantern provided by the kit was a photo-etched affair that would not have worked on this model. Here is my attempt at a suitable replacement:

And then, with little fanfare, she crossed the finish line:

FINIS.
Thanks, Brad. Acrylic should be arriving later today.Wonderful build and superb lantern to top off the taffrail!! BRAVO ZULU!!
A long multi-year journey that your bystanders have learned much from. You have helped many "up their game" with your detailed posts/photos that document your processes and patience, as you strive for and nearly achieve mastery of this medium.
Can't wait to see: 1) Your base and case, as I'm sure you will make them do this project justice, and 2) Your next project which we are all awaiting with bated breath!!
Thanks, Dirk. I appreciate all your encouraging posts over the past few years.Congratulations Paul, what a wonderful model. It was a pleasure to accompany you on your journey. I learnt a lot and always had fun looking at your pictures. Thank you for that!
Dirk
Thank you kindly, Gilbert.Hi Paul
Absolutely wonderful piece of art
Amazing
Congratulations
Thank you, my friend.Great job! You learned a lot about modeling during your build and so did a lot us following your build. Thanks for all the posts and pictures. Again, great job.
Thank you for this encouraging post, Dean! I suspect there was a tiny model builder inside of me all along. Strangely, I can't explain what took me so long to find this hobby. It checks a lot of boxes for me so it should have been something I encountered many years ago. Sure did waste a lot of time missing fairways off the tee and three-putting from 10 feet.Paul,
I wanted to add that I am absolutely amazed at your rapid growth as a craftsman and model builder. You started as a rank amateur and built a masterpiece plank on bulkhead Vasa and now you have built a POF ship, while adding carving and milling to your skills, and finished with another masterpiece. I would venture to say you’re ready for a scratch build next!![]()
Thanks, Grant. Very nice words. It seems to me that humility is the best policy in every circumstanceGood afternoon Paul. Whew…..True story and ditto x20. They guys have said it all. Congratulations. Sometimes your humility exceeds your accomplishment. Step back and admire one of the best Kingfishers built and say “freak” that is one brilliant model. Mostly- you owned this project and it has Dockatter written all over it. French from scratch sounds like an exciting next venture.
Cheers Grant
