Krick “Alert” U.S. Cutter, 1/25 scale

In Holding pattern:

I'm waiting for materials to arrive. Things are shipping much slower given the current National Emergency. Material I have on order would normally be delivered within two days of the order, it's now going on three weeks. I can't go out the local Hobby store and pickup what I need, all my sources are closed at least until May 1st.

So I'm doing the little things keep going.

The partially completed pieces for the deck cabin, I've left the ends of the side and front walls free of the walnut planks since they will require a slight bevel when fitted and glued.

The plan for the deck cabin, it looks like a confusing bunch of numbers, but with a little study and colored highlighting and looking up the material referenced by the numbers, everything falls into place.

This is the start of the rear cabin. The plans are 1:1 scale and all the materials need to be reference back to the German instruction manual. I've been copying parts of the plans as I need them. It takes a little bit of study to visualize how the pieces fit together.

Hi Jan - Oh my, I know what this feels like and how frustrating the waiting period can be.
On the subject of the bow filler blocks - I have discarded the balsa in favour of some basswood after I read that Ab Hoving said that neither balsa nor boxwood is wood! But boy oh boy; the basswood is something else to sand and shape!

Continuing with the little stuff.

Working on the Carronade carriage. (Is that the correct term?)

I found once again that the 1:1 plan needed a bit of study. This piece is made up of several sub assemblies. The build plan is excellent but also confusing. Without noting the part numbers and referencing the build manual, the laminated plywood pieces as shown on the drawing look like individual boards.

As Uwe would say, check, double check and then check again. Being a novice builder I have a lot of instances of measuring twice, cutting once and the part is still to short. :)

Hi Jan. That is strange - those gaps in the cast-line are very "un-Krick" like (from what I've heard). I cant tell you the exact number of the postings, but if you look at @Maarten and Alex T's RC builds, you will find the write-ups on the blackening agents. Everything on Maarten's RC is just about perfect, so have a look at what he advises.

Thank you Heinrich,

I'll look those builds up.

Hi JAN and HEINRICH, KNOW THE FEELING ABOUT DELIVERIES, like old days in the army hurry up and wait no truer words were ever spoken. Don
Hi Don,

I think I got spoiled by two to three days turn around for on line orders. There is only one Hobby store 20 plus miles north of where I live. It"s mostly RC RTF airplanes and RC cars and trucks and assorted plastic kits. Sometimes I'm lucky enough to find things I can use at the Art and Craft store in the local Mall.

Hi Jan. Good to see an update. Yes, that is the question. But you wont be happy with that the way it is now, so I would take the chance.

I’d be interested in how the small Hobby Zone jig works out. I’ve looked at their add for it several times, but have not found any actual users comments.

Hello Jan,

Agree with the above comments, try to drill. Use small drill bit first. if worth come to worth, insert a piece of brass tubing it will make nice bore.

Jan
Hi Jimsky,

That little chore is on the agenda for tomorrow. Today’s activity has been a battle off and on with a couple of VERY persistent Red Squirrels. So far they’ve dug up a lot of Daffodil and Tulip bulbs, destroyed two plastic bird feeders and chewed the entrance holes to several bird houses. We usually have large Grey Squirrels but now the smaller red ones have moved in.:mad:
