La Belle - Caf Model 1:48 by Thomas Marocke [COMPLETED BUILD]

Hallo!

The CAF-Kit is not for Beginners and has three Errors! Wrong plank width, main deck not correct and too short and the figurehead mirrored.

There are just the most necessary woods in the kit. You need more Wood (see next photo, i love pear wood). There is no ship boat and no stove. There is also no interior hull expansion.

For this the quality of the hull wood and the photo etched brass is excellent.

With best regards

Hallo Thomas,
many thanks for starting this interesting building log - great, that you are showing us the pros- and cons of the kit, which is one of the earlier CAF kits.
Still a very good quality POF project - I will follow your work with big interest.

It has been many years and many kits since I last built a kit straight out of the box. These days I engage in a lot of "kit bashing." It is almost expected and often necessary. Everything from better wood, more wood, and better parts and accessories. I have replaced cannons, blocks, rigging, and strip wood. I am sure others on the forum can say the same. So you are definitely on target and doing great! Super nice results thus far!

Inspiring work congratulations, I am also fascinated in seeing other’s work spaces and I am envious that yours looks so clean and ordered, I just wonder what you are doing about dust control as I see a nice disc sander in the background? although I have a Shop Vac that I can fit to my saw and disc sander and another dust extractor to my drum sander I still seem to end up with needing to wear a dust mask.

Hi, the job is very beautiful! Much better than my job! I have a question: According to the scale, should the hull be 4mm wide?
Best regards

Hello Yuhong!

Take a look at once: oliver.gatinee.free.fr., La Belle 1684 - Modélisme d'arsenal - Oliver Gatine. Under "Modéles" you will find different models with different scales. They were built by talented specialists. Glenn Grieco has chosen a different interpretation for Texas A&M Model than Jean Boudriot.
We are not building for a museum, but only for ourselves. First the family and friends, then the shipmodel. With the equipment, with barrel, anchor, bed, stove and other things you have created a beautiful handcrafted model.

Your question. Yes the keel should be 4,0 mm thick. But CAF used the same wood thickness as for her ribs 3,1 mm. Otherwise CAF would have had to start a new board for the keel parts.

Hallo!

I want to build a construction Model of La Belle. For this I got the CAF kit. Ancre's blueprints were extremly necessary for the construction. CAF plans are not sufficient.
