All I can see this is going to be an awesome built,so I am watching it from the front row and front seat handcuffed to the chair,otherwise maybe somebody will kick me out.
The parts are realy looking very good. A very good idea to show us the ancre plan first and afterwards with the parts from the kit. So we are able also to see the differences in the kit......great idea.
I can not wait to start also with my Salamandre, which is still on the track to Austria.....

Having trouble finding it again. Found it while surfing links on their site looking for something else. Only members can directly access specific boards and oddly one needs an invitation to register.
I know what you mean about that 4H site mate. Theres an Enterprise 1771 build log there from CAF models the same as my current build, but I could not send the link to Zoly no matter how many times I tried.

Received my missing parts from Max today via Express post after 1week since contact. Great service and communication from ZHL. I am continuing to assemble the ribs and about half way through them. Should post some photos when I complete the job. Slow but satisfying work. Though the hull is only about 60cm long there are 44 ribs with over 600 pieces to assemble and then the grinding. I am really enjoying this build and already thinking of buying another of these big face Chinese kits for the future. First I have to get rid of my other kits. No going back to those old generation style kits.

You made already half of all the ribs? ..... I told you from the beginning, that your built will be faster than mine......but in this way it will ne not boring for the members here to see your and my progress.......and I am able to peer over to your log........happy modelling

I've often seen this kit on eBay but the price is way out of my league. I'm interested in following your build though, just in case I win the lottery some day.

The Chinese are responding to a demand for plank on frame kits with laser cut futtocks from which to assemble the frames. Most modelers who want to do POF may lack the skill, experience, patience or tools to create frames from scratch. Aside from The Lumberyard I am not not aware of any American or European kit maker who offers this type of kit.
I built the Lumberyard Oneida with laser cut frame pieces and it was sufficiently challenging for me. It built into a beautiful model. I also built the Lumberyard Rattlesnake which required me to make all the frames from scratch. While I completed that project successfully and it was a learning experience, I have no interest in doing it again if there is an alternative . That is why I am currently building La Belle by CAF. So far that kit seems to be well designed but with no real instructions , just photocopied pictures which could be clearer. Not a kit for beginners.
I know that Chinese kit makers have been guilty of piracy on some of their products, but what other sources for POF kits are there?

This kit would have been out of my financial league also. I bought it with some of my retirement package. I see it as an investment in my leisure time now that I am not working and thought why not spend a little more since I had the opportunity. I worked in the mental health field and it is commonly regarded that a lack of a hobby or challenging interests after retirement can lead to quicker mental deterioration as one ages. I’m not one to sit around watching TV and try to keep busy all the time with various interests and excited to have returned to ship modeling.

I agree with most of your statement, but strongly disagree what you said about piracy.
There are two points that I must point out. I'm talking about the laws in Australia only, about copyright. Here, a copyrighted products are only protected for SEVEN YEARS. After that period of time, a perfect example is generic medications, companies can copy and with only a 'slight twig' in changing it, they can legally produce the almost the same product.
Why are hundreds and hundreds years old ship plans, world wide are different? Another point is, almost every non-Chinese kit manufacturers produce the 'HMAS VICTORY'. These kits are almost the same but only because of a 'slight twig' they are allowed.
Another example is the kit I'm working on. The ZHL 1:30 scale HMAY ROYAL CAROLINE. There are talk, that this kit was taken from the drawings on the AToS book of the same name. So hence, it's a piracy copy. How wrong is that last statement.
I know for a fact, that Max from ZHL, spent over two years in R&D on this kit. I can tell you that the bulkheads are a completely different from the AToS' version. I tried to work-out the NEW BULKHEADS that I will need from the waterline drawings, both Max and I came to the same conclusion that there's a major ERROR in the waterline's plans on AToS. The shape of the bulkheads are wrong.
When I was redrawing the bulkheads, from the keel to the water line are very similar, but the deck is 16mm narrower than the waterline dictates. I had these figures checked by my nephew, who is a naval architect, and he told my drawings are right and the AToS drawings are incorrect.
Below is the Profile water-line and THE SAME BULKHEAD from the kit and AToS Drawings. the Yellow is the AToS's version and the blue-ish green is the Kit's and my drawings.
As you can see: there is a difference so hence. the ZHL's kits are not copied from the AToS plans at all, and all the bulkheads are drawn from the information in the water-lines draft, which I got FREE from the Swedish Maritime Museum, and I was told by them, I can used the draft, to redraw my own drawings.
Below is the draft that i received and it is identical to the AToS's bulkhead profiles.

So would I. Coming along well so far.
I have completed just over half the ribs. Futtocks are nicely cut, accurate and fit well with no breakages. Have started some preliminary rough sanding to the heavily faired ribs. Previously I built all my ships with only one power tool and that was a mini drill. Now I have upgraded with a Dremel battery powered tool and a Proxxon pen sander. A must have for this kind of work as there is plenty of sanding and grinding to be done.
Since I am working in the kitchen I have done a lot of improvising with kitchen implements I have at hand. I have used a thick very flat marble cheese board, a plastic cutting board, some plates and a heavy ebony brush pot to set my ribs. Is working excellent as this applies even pressure all around and the ribs turn out nicely flat.
After every session I have to pack everything away and clean the mess to keep my wife happy although she is not impressed with me using the kitchen implements.
