Le Coureur 1776 1:48 (CAF) by Salty

Thank you everyone who has visited and left a Like.

Grant, thanks for you kind words also. Your Enterprize is looking fantastic. We should set up a CAF mutual appreciation sub-forum on SoS.

Over the last few days, I have been rigging the bowsprit and foremast.

Before installing any of the lines, I had to put small sheaves in the spars held in place with a 0.5 mm brass pin.

I decided to replace the blocks and some of the lines in the kit with ones from Zoly at Drydock. The blocks are very nice with the holes for the sheaves being drilled out and a nice groove down the side that traps and holds the stropping while you tighten it. The remainder of the line is DMC Cordonnet cotton crochet thread which comes is various sizes from 20 (approx 0.5 mm) to 100 (approx 0.2 mm). It comes in balls of about 400 metres, so one order will see me out.

As with the cannons, all the seizings are nail knots. It takes a bit of planning as you can’t tie them on the model, but they can be slid into place relatively easily before setting with glue and trimming. On a good day, I can do about 10 in an hour, but I feel they are worth it.

Le Coureur is starting to come to life now that she has some rigging. At times, I perhaps could have done better on some individual parts, but there’s nothing that’s terrible and the disappointment fades when you add these details. Although she’s a relatively uncomplicated ship, there’s still more than enough to keep you interested.

Kind regards

Tom
