Le Requin 1/48 ZHL model [COMPLETED BUILD]

This week I put some more riggs on the main sail. I'm still tweaking a bit the shape of the sail by adjusting the length of the lines across the sail. I'm not sure this is the purpose of these lines in reality.
Anyhow, also I'm continuing with the preparations of the sail in the front and I managed to install the big (but slightly smaller) pulley.

Good morning. Such a beautiful model. Cheers Grant

Nice execution, that bow is beautiful. Thank you for sharing it.

This week, I started with the front sail, which is basically a repeat of the main sail. In the meantime, I'm thinking of how to create the protective cover. I bought a mirror of 30x150 cm (IKEA), which will serve as the bottom. I was not expecting the mirror to emphasize the 'transparent' hull so well. I hope the pictures I took, explain what I mean. The sides of the cover will be either glass or plexi-glass, the back is still under consideration. Let's see next week... :)

Fabulous! The mirror works exceptionally well for the reason stated, as do the clear pedestals Thumbsup
I realize that glass v. plexiglass each have their partisans, each with arguably good reasons, pro and con.
I have always chosen plexiglass for the reasons that glass is heavier, is more fragile and when it breaks it is usually with disastrous consequences for the model. An issue I have seen and had to deal with more than once, the models in question requiring extensive restoration.

Almost finished! I have added the front sail and fixed the stand by removing some excess mounts. The things left to do are: cleaning up the ropes on the deck, creating a barrel and ores, both for the ship and lifeboat (all included in the kit), and making a protective cover from plexiglass. Soon I'm going to miss working on this ship...

After cleaning up the deck and putting the ropes in order, I decided to put the ores another time :). So I have put the ship at his final resting place and started working on the protective cover: there is a very nice name plate supplied with the kit, which I have pained in the colors of the ship. The plexiglass plates (and white back) for the sides should arrive next week. The bottom and top of the cover are created by using the IKEA mirrors with metal corners (see picture) to confine the plexiglass sides...

To answer the question of Maarten: my next ship will be the HMS Victory of Occre (#255), which I will start in October with a new blog. I have been following some very helpful blogs on this forum and I'll put my own twist to this kit.
